Finally my 1965 Split

This is two photos of my 1965( Or so I have been told) I am going down to the cape on Thursday to take some more photo's and have a good look at her as I have not seen her. She will stay down there while her mechanicals will be sorted out. Then she will make the journey to JHB her new home where the restoration will start on the body etc.

I am still in two minds about her as she does not have back seat I think of doing a camper interior or if I get seats I will restore her to originals as possible as she look really in good condition. But will have some better photos by the weekend.

Apparently (I haven't seen the bus yet) it does have everything original in the bus except the back seats. The bus was driven to the location under the trees where is was put on blocks. My dad got the bus and went to collect it today. I will have more info on Thursday night.

Fig.....do you remember this bus....was in the Karoo. Owner talked to us at the George Show and then bought the wine to thank us for the time and advice.

Congrats BUSBFK, that's a nice bus you have, we were shown a few pics from the owners friend when in George. I think I still have a hard copy somewhere.....can I be cheaky and ask what you paid?

If it's in Cape Town, happy to offer help and advice as I've just finished "MO"

Yes, I actually went to see it. But with buying the 57 at the same time, I wasn't able to offer enough to buy it.

Good luck and congratulations BUSBFK, that's a very cool bus you have bought. :hangloose:

Thanks guys :hangloose:

That's the one. My dad is in Stillbaai he collected the bus yesterday. It will take a month or two before I will get the bus up here in JHB. My dad will do the mechinicals down there. Just one question. It does still have the 6v system. Should I convert it to 12V or keep the 6V?

Cheers

Don't know why some ppl have their spare tires in the front, when I got mine it had it there as well. Obviously been moved to the inside.. All the best with your project, look like a solid bus you have there :drunks:

Hi Johanb

Yes I agree that was the first thing that came of was the tyre on the front. It will go back into the back of the bus as it is supposed to be. Just now I need that big VW sign. And thanks. How far are you with your bus?

My bus is under wraps at the moment due to a shoulder op (Reconstruction of my left shoulder) I had earlier this month. Can't do anything for a few months, but are sourcing spares and panels. My front wheel was the first thing removed in order to start the project,, and I need a new badge as well :(
These buses rock, all the best with your project

Hi Johanb

Thanks and good luck with your bus and shoulder. And if you run into a couple of those front badges keep me in mind. :drunks: Will do the same.
