1600 mild street engine buildup

Post by Edmond »

I've had this subject in the advice section but I thought I should rather start a build log on this engine
in this section
Parts collected so far for this buildup

AS41 1600 full flowed line bored casing
reground stock crank
rebushed and balanced conrods
32-34 pdsit carbs with ICT weber manifolds
Double Thrust cam bearings
TP heads(still with DaveR)

Ive still got a stack of small parts to get as this motor is been built from scratch
Im still looking for a set of decent 1600 barrels(sleeves) anyone have a set out there in CT

I brought the case already line bored from Dave Rowley for R750 which I think was a good price as the case has only been line bored 40 thou, has factory fitted case saver inserts and is also dual relief
The full flow tapping, drilling and milling was R100 and R45 for the brass 90º elbow.
I will post some pics of the casing sometime this weekend

I was really lucky with the manifolds DaveR had them spare from a tp ict carb kit which was going on a single port motor so the TP manifolds were laying in his parts store for a while.
I paid R350 for the pair including the carb mounting studs which was really a good deal

Dubster, my baja has the full flow oil filter setup on at the moment will post some pics of it.
Ive bought all of my parts from DaveR so far for this engine so maybe thats why he gave me a good deal on the intakes or maybe he was only glad enough to get rid of them

Will keep the pics coming SFDT
This buildup is gonna take a while though as the budget is really restricted but hoping to have the casing together in the next month or two, still need to sort the cam and followers out as well as getting the crank and other goodies balanced

Dubster I was initially going to build a 1776 motor but the sleeve kit is R3600 so there went that idea if I could get a set cheaper would still consider it as a 1600 sleeve kit is R2250 and getting s/h sleeves rebored with new pistons works out to about R1700.
I got a stock reground crank from DaveR about 2 months ago so will just get that balanced and use it but maybe get it and the flywheel 8 dowelled for reliability remember this will be a strictly daily driver motor
with max 5000 rpm rev limit
