Thing project.
Eventually ladies and gentleman, here are some photos of the Thing project which I have undertaken. Been a long time coming and will still take a while. As you can see it has a dodgy front end that I cut off. My apologies for taking so long on posting some pics, but here they are.
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Re: Thing project.
I LOVE it!
Your twinport manifolds will be in the mail tomorrow. I managed to get another (non-broken) set with the yellow buggy I bought on Friday, so you can have them and don't need to worry about welding anymore.
Now that you know how to post pics, keep 'em coming!

Pine - you Sir are a scholar and a gentleman, and hopefully a fine judge of whiskey!
Bugspray - As for plans, the new pans will be welded in by the weekend and then I can get the suspensions put back on and get the chassis rolling. As for body work, is anyone a whiz with metal work? It looks like I'm going to have to build a new front end.

Re: Thing project.
Hmm metal shapers are few and far between, specially regarding old school aircooleds in durbz. Panel beaters aplenty, but artists not many. But maybe i could get you a few numbers, and you could talk to them, im a complete noob with Tihngs.

More than meets the eye!

Re: Thing project.
Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. As for the panelbeaters vs artists, I couldn't agree more. When you come back down to Dbn drop me a PM and I'll at least bring my old man's restored Thing around.

Re: Thing project.
You are welcome, Grubby, thanks for the compliments
I know this may sound sad, but there is a group of WW2 enthusiasts in Bloemfontein who modified at least two Things that I know of to look like Kubels, in other words they replaced the square mudguards with round ones. This was done about 4 years ago, IIRC. It is a long shot, but maybe they can help? I found this site, perhaps you should try them?

Thanks Pine, I'll check it out and get hold of them. That does look really cool, but I don't think Adolf was a big fan of Klippies!Pine wrote:You are welcome, Grubby, thanks for the compliments
