What model do you have?: I believe it's a '75
8% of voters, 19h35 27/02/10 of acvwsa had cast their vote for the Suzuki. I was one of the 8%. The way forward 'environmental' and city driving is smaller cars, which is the basis of my vote. Majority of these owners will have a weekend car parked at home for the trailer and hubby. Not sure what features what this comes with, however we do trust the folks from the island. Long love islanders!!! :hangloose:

After I have seen the prices Impissed off again with this competition
Always the larney cars no bread and butter models
Remember the year an Alfa won and sold something like 200 cars that year and one of the opposition cars in the competition sold over 2000 .----the buyers have voted with their dollars---- and thats what gives you the real winner.
You will never get the affordable model in this competition
My vote is for the citi golf and the uno Owned both and had good value for money
And before you laugh at me how many have driven an Uno 3000KM on a weekend. Thats when you realy appreciate the cars ergonomics. And many people suvived accidents in them.
Remember this is a 3rd world coutry and Idont think the 1st world cars should be pushed to hard

Maybe the Cruze for me
cheers

I think that the actual South African Car of the Year 2010 awards will be this evening (couldn't find the exact date)?

Nonetheless, I have closed our ACVWSA voting, and we are honoured tonight to have non other than SA Surfchick champion ROXY LOUW to announce the winner for us. Ladies and Gentleman, a round of applause please!

*drumroll*

Quote:
Roxy Louw is no stranger to adventure. From a young age, she traveled the world while watching her father excel as one of the best rugby players to ever come out of South Africa. With a love of sport instilled in her brain, she experimented with many different disciplines until she found her true love of surfing. Since that day, Roxy has spent the majority of her time on the hunt for waves and sunshine and is always searching for a stronger understanding of the world around her.

The winner tonight on the ACVWSA Car of the Year 2010 poll, with a runaway victory of 37.5% votes, is the

90 kW VW Golf VI 1.4 TSI Comfortline!

Image

Second prize, with a total vote count of 17.5%, the

Hyundai i20 1.6 GLS

Image

Third prizes are shared by the following cars, each with a vote count of 10%:

Chevrolet Cruze 1.8 LS - 4 Votes
Suzuki Alto 1.0 GLS - 4 Votes
Volvo XC60 3.0T Geartronic - 4 Votes

Image

And last, but not least (I think!) - our 'Tribe has spoken' prize goes to the poor Toyota Prius, with a vote count of exactly ZERO PERCENT!

(Sorry, Priussy - the Tribe has spoken. You can't beat good 'old FOSSIL FUELS! Or has it perhaps got something to do with the brakes? )

That's all, Folks! Stay tuned for the REAL results to be posted soon...

(Thanks Roxy :flash: )

Indeed - so here is the the official story

Quote:
Johannesburg - The South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) announced the VW Golf 1.4 TSI as South Africa’s 2010 Car of the Year (COTY) at a gala banquet at Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand, on Thursday.

The announcement of the prestigious accolade comes after a stringent process of voting and physical testing of eligible cars launched onto the SA market from 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009.

An in-depth poll of the SAGMJ full members, followed by a second vote by the COTY jury, arrived at eight finalists towards the end of last year. The COTY jury, made up of the top motoring journalists in the country, then put the finalists through two days of testing in February and subjected them to a rigid scoring process.

The final audited scores showed VW Golf 1.4 TSI as the eventual winner of what is widely considered to be the most prestigious accolade in the motor industry. The SAGMJ, a professional body of qualified motoring writers, has annually awarded the title of SA’s Car of the Year for 25 years.

The VW Golf 1.4 TSI beat off strong competition from the Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 Turbo, Audi Q5 2.0T S tronic, Chevrolet Cruze 1.8 LS, Hyundai i20 1.6 GLS, Suzuki Alto 1.0 GLS, Toyota Prius 1.8 ECVT Advanced and Volvo's XC60 3.0T Geartronic which were the other finalists vying for honours in the country’s premier motoring event.

By definition, the SA Car of the Year should evoke automotive passion and excitement to make it a truly outstanding car both in its class and in the whole market.

The COTY competition is about automotive excellence and the winning car must score highly in its class across a variety of categories including those which reflect value for money, safety, dynamics, technology and aesthetics.

It should also demonstrate that it strives towards representing innovation and ingenuity in marketing and engineering in its class and should represent a brave step forward in motoring, preferably setting new benchmarks in its market segment. The winner must show that is truly worthy of the ultimate accolade and the singular title of ‘The South African Car of the Year’.
