Re: WINDOWS
Take the rubber fir around window then put in chrome strip the fit the whole story with a rope on to the body. the rope musst be around the rubber to pull the rubber over the body lip. 2 person job, one inside with the rope one outside pressing the window. Does that make sense?

Re: WINDOWS
Thanks for asking lowlight.... it does not!
We have tried just about everything but at the risk of damaging the chrome beading that came in the kit from WW, vra ons nou maar. Added to this, the WW kit consists of all stationery rubber and chrome moulding. The rubbers are also 1 piece and do not need to be cut and joined like other rubbers.....
Being 1 pc, makes it so much more difficult as there in not much tolerance for stretching the rubber...
Can anyone help?

Re: WINDOWS
i got the rubbers to fit the window but the problem is that once the window is in the chrome is very difficult to fit. i was told that you get a special tool for that. if anybody knows somebody that knows somebody else that can do it in cape town, let me no please. THERE MUST BE SOMEONE OUT THERE.

Re: WINDOWS
You have a kak job on hand. Very rarely is it possible to get the chrome trim in. Its possible but hard. I had to trash my trim after i got new rubbers, from volkspares. I actualy decide to use the old OG rubbers. But yeah keep em in the sun,or boiling water for a bit. Then use strong rope, maybe nylon threaded into the groove.maybe try clipping the chrome trim to it somehow. Then install. If you putting in new window scrapers then forget the trim it wil neverwork, and get a good glue as its hard to stick onto the door.

More than meets the eye!

Re: WINDOWS
I use ky jelly to lubricate The stuff is good for the rubber and washes of easily dont use soap which contains salts and will promote rust.
First test fit the rubber on the glass.
then take a nice piece of coat hanger wire and fold it double. go around the groove to check that it is open all the way around . if the groove is shallowr in some spots use a dull knife to open the groove
let the rubber and window lie in the sun for a few minutes (put the rubber onto the glass before the bath so there is no lubricant there as the rubber will stick to the glass) or a hot bath if the other half will allow it. Give her a hundred bucks and tell her to go now as you will probably swear a little. You also dont want help for this job as another pair of hands will just cock it up (one day you can ask me how I know this.)
take yoyr jelly and liberally apply in the groove
then place the chrome (start with a flat window first.)as close as possible in the right place.
push the outer edge of the rubber down and lightly press the moulding in the groove if the lube is right it slips in with very little pressure dont be to concerned if it is not yet fully in plce rather get the whole trim in partially go around the perimeter a few times pulling the rubber out slightly and pressing the moulding down into the rubber it might help to re heat in the bath again. be patient and above all dont use any hard objects to push the molding. once the molding is on then fit the clip the same way. use a piece of cord (i use a piece of rope salvaged from a parachute 20 years ago LOL) and place that in the groove that fits the body this overlaps about 20cm. then place the window as close as possible in the window frame. again lubricate with jelly. the ends of the rope should be inside the car (you still dont want assistance as the assistant will push and you WILL break the window. now with one hand outside pressing the window slightly start pulling the cord and the rubber will climb over the lip in the body, dont yank just pull slowly the windo pops in once in a few blows with a fist turned side ways will seat it.
dont worry if it doesnt go in the first time Practice makes perfect Againt no help.and no tools that screwdriver should leave with the wife so that you will not be temted.

oh, the part about doin it alone....not so easy! my missus helped me(she's the BEST helper), she wasnt to keen on the shouting and swearing.

Re: WINDOWS
I'm glad your windows turned out good. I must admit that I have seen PG do my Notch, not so hot, the windows leak, I have seen another crowd do my Ghia and actually rip the rubbers to buggery at 140GBP a pop, I was just thankful they didn't break the glass, can you imagine trying to get another rear window for that T34? But then Mechanicars did it, and put the chrome in and I am very pleased with the outcome. It fits, doesn't leak, and the corners are in the right place and not torn. I just mention this so other people on the forum can also see that Mechanicars is out there and they do a very nice job. They are in Salt river, just a block closer to town in the same street as Shellys.
