Help for a first timer? 1970 Beetle

Hi

Been browsing for a while now but this is my fist post, so first of all I want to warn you . . . I am an IT engineer and I don't know much about cars. :puterwork:

I finally got my 1970 Beetle, so at fist all I wanted to do was smash in Subaru EJ20 Turbo. After some browsing I came to the conclusion that this might not be the best idea with all my car knowledge.
So I wanted to find out what would you recommend to get a bit more power but without to much modifications?
I don't mind a little bit of cutting, welding or hammering :D

Secondly if someone could direct me to a place selling Disc brake conversion kits it would be great, I heard about the bolt on kits but I'm unable to find any info in Limpopo.
Would a Golf disc break kit work?

Hi Dismer and welcome to the forum. Where about in Limpopo are you. If you update your location in your user control panel, the guys will be able to point you in the right direction. Do a lot of searching and get to know the Impi's, Buggers and Tony Z's on the forum. There are a lot of other knowlegable people on here. Too many to mention. Post pics of your ride. I am situated in Limpopo too. Mokopane to be exact. If you are close by we can arrange to meet?

As Rickey says, please update your location.
The power you want is dependant on the size of your wallet and you actually realising how little power it takes to make a bug fast...
Go through some of my pages (click on the links below this post) and you will see a few stories.... 75hp in a bug is fun, 90hp is great fun, 180 is just unnecessary ;-)

Reading your thread just made me realize how little I actually know :zhelp: :lol:

All I can say is Beautiful . . .

Yip about 20% ;-)
Or about 80% more than stock
70hp impresses people at how well your bug goes and puts a smile on your face.
90hp surprises people and puts such a stupid grin on your face that you cant look at people in the eye.
150hp does the same but you end up giggling as well

There are also various ways to get the 100hp from making a wild 1600, a mild 1917 or a tame 2275cc. Even 75hp will pull away from most cars bmw's, Mercs, audi, golfs at the robots.
Here is some advice I give all who want to build a motor. You can 2 of the following 3 things.
Power
Reliability
Affordability (cheap)
If you want Power and Reliability its not cheap..
Affordably power is not reliable
Reliable afordability has no power...

So how big is the budget? You IT dudes have big bucks.. R6k, R15k or >R20k?

Haha maybe the other guys xD Looking at about 15k-20k altogether. But not on one shot :shock:

This is gonna be my little project (2 - 3 years) so it doesn't need to run anytime soon.
First of all I'm gonna tackle the rust and other little cosmetic things and then start looking towards the engine, sound and bling.

Engine wise
We can build you a very nice reliable 1600 T/P motor with Webber carb and you will really enjoy the bug with out braking the bank
doing a conversion engine

Problem with Subaru/Rotary/2L Golf is that now you got more power but can not stop
and then you start breaking transmissions and side shafts as it does happen
So it is not just the money you spent on the engine conversion you need to take in to consideration but
Upgrade the Transmission / engine and box mountings / handling and spopping power all these extras jump up quickly
in the reagion of R25K above engine conversion
Adapterplates Available for Rotary in Beetle and others aswell
And Special Boxes built for Rotary Conversions and Scubies
