Recon Type 3 rear engine mountings - On exchange

Post by Variant »

Greetings everyone

Since a few more type 3's have come out of the woodwork: I am offering reconditioned rear engine mountings for all Type 3's with manual transmissions on exchange. These mountings are becoming almost impossible to find in useable condition. Have a look at the pics below - the original rubber insert gets replaced with a polyurethane casting of similar stiffness and as result of the casting process one ends up with a slightly larger contact area so the recon mounting should provide even better stability and last much longer than the original. I've had one on the Notch for about two years and it works very well - no more bucking/shunting if you let the clutch out quickly. The price is R450 each to anyone on the forum - excluding postage. Depending on demand I should be able to dispatch within a week of receiving your old mounting. Please PM if interested.

If there is demand I will look into having the spacers between the body & mounting made up as well.

I am now in a position to offer reconditioned rear engine mountings for all MT Type 3's on exchange. These mountongs are becoming almost impossible to find in useable condition and by now probably every T3 out there needs one. Have a look at the pic below - the original rubber insert gets replaced with a polyurethane casting of similar stiffness and as result of the casting process one ends up with a slightly larger contact area so the recon mounting should provide even better stability and last much longer than the original. I have been testing one of these on my Notch for some time now and it works very well. Due to material cost the price works out to R500 each and depending on demand I should be able to dispatch within 1 day of receiving your old mounting. Please PM if interested.

If there is demand I will look into having the spacers between the body & mounting mady up as well.
Since I am new to Type 3s, could you please explain what "MT" means? :zhelp:
The only substitute for cubic inches are more cubic inches.

MT = Manual Transmission. Automatics had a completely different engine & transmission mounting setup.

This is an excellent initiative - NOS ones were around R1500-00 the last time I checked.

AFAIK type 2 & 4 used similar mounts from 1970 onwards. I don't have any, sorry.

All type 3 models with swing axle rear suspension use the same mounting. Three mounting are shown together because I had them cast together... :)
