1914cc Turn key engine (Sold)
I'm testing the waters here to see if there would be any interest. Over the December holidays we assembled a Type 1 engine from all the parts we had laying around the house.
Basically what it is: 1914cc Type 1
- AS21 Type 1 engine casing, machined for 94mm barrels. Case has been drilled for full flow, which we plugged as the pump does not have a full flow cover.
- Standard 69mm non counter weighted crank shaft with stock flywheel and new main bearings. No clutch or pressure plate
- Balanced stock connecting rods with new bearings
- Scat C35 camshaft
- Big foot cam followers
- High flow oil pump
- Mahle barrels, machined for 1.5mm deck height
- Wiseco 94mm type b pistons with aluminium buttons and new rings (I had these in my race car, the engine ran lean and caused scuff marks on the pistons which was cleaned)
- Cromoly pushrods with aluminium adjustable pushrod tubes
- Cylinder heads have been done by flat four racing cape town. 42mm stainless intake and 37mm stainless exhaust valves. Double HD valve springs with cromoly retainers. Modified for 12mm long reach spark plugs (NGK D8EA plugs). Slightly ported. Cylinder heads have been flycut for around 10,5:1 compression. There is some damage around the valve spring collets in the cylinder heads, but should not cause any problems.
- Solid shaft rocker shafts that bolt together. Swivel feet adjusters
- Aluminium clip on valve covers
- Serpentine belt crank pulley kit. Standard size diameter
- Dual 36mm Weber IDF carburetors with match ported intake manifolds, linkages and air filters. The carbs have been ultrasonically cleaners and serviced.
- Complete ignition system, points distributor with cap and leads
- Engine tin with fan housing, generator and stock oil cooler.
- 1 5/8" merged header with silencer
The engine is running, but still needs the finishing touches. Oil pressure seems pretty good. After running for about 10 minutes the oil pressure is just under 1 bar at 800rpm. Everything sounds good and the engine is pretty responsive. It should have major torque with the c35 camshaft. Will be nice in a beetle, not good for a combi with the high compression.
Note, the only new parts that went into the engine is the bearings, piston rings and gaskets.
Would there be any interest in something like this?

Re: 1914cc Turn key engine
I am open to offers. The price I had in mind was in the region of R16k.
I've still got a couple of small things to sort on the engine, once sorted I'll post a video of it running on the stand.

Re: 1914cc Turn key engine
Will do.
Mainly due to the high compression ratio it would not be ideal for a combi.
