Cheap setup for SQ
My first car is a bug, which i'm very happy with!
It has no sound what so ever and i've got +- 2500 to spend on sound,
What are your suggestions?

Re: Cheap setup for SQ
on a budget that small, I would say keep it simple.
Headunit
small amp
1 pair 6x9s
For the record, I hate 6x9s but they can sound pretty good if connected to an amp.

Re: Cheap setup for SQ
Thank you, do you have any recommendations for the speakers and amp? I'm getting a head unit from a friend so i'll have about 2000 for speakers and an amp.
What do you think of these?

Re: Cheap setup for SQ
I wouldnt touch those, you paying extra for all those little speakers that you dont need. A 25mm tweeter will produce frequencies you cannot hear, no need for tiny 10mm tweeters.
With 2grand for speakers and amps, I would say you have a few more options.
10" limpets are a damn good option if driven by an amp http://www.autostyle.co.za/product/1751 ... dSpeakers/
Or 8" limpets but JBL, better quality but smaller
Put those on the rear shelf
with an amp like this driving it http://www.autostyle.co.za/product/1878 ... 00w2chAmp/
and then a set of smaller speakers driven off the headunit in the front doors (6" or so).
Another option which sounds damn good for those in the front, but not so good for those in the rear:
6" or 8" splits in the dront doors or kick panels
12" sub in a sealed enclosure in the dog box
4channel amp driving it.
You might have to factor in installation costs with this - box and kick panels will soak up a good few hundred.
Go speak to some local car audio guys and see what they recommend.
The system I have in my beetle is nothing like what I recommended above, the system I have been wanting to install for years is even further away from the above.

Re: Cheap setup for SQ
Check out the ICE section. I have some cool speakers and ahead unit for sale if you wana go 2nd hand yet awesome quality. Lightning audio,Alpine etc.
I suggest a good mp3 head unit. A good set of splits or co axials, and a suitable amp. This will be sufficient until you want to add a sub.
When adding a sub, just go for a single 12 or even better a good loud 10 inch sub.

Re: Cheap setup for SQ
Don't even bother with an amp...........
nice decent radio with about 50watt/ 17watt rms outout, set of co-axes for the front, 6x9's in the back and call it a day. Going with an amp on the speakers is just going to get louder without giving the missing bass.
I had a set-up like this on my old beetle for 4 years and it was more than enough........plenty loud and 100% bullet proof.

Re: Cheap setup for SQ
Consider Rockford Fosgate Prime Series:
Rockford Fosgate Prime R1653 6½" coaxials for R471.00
Rockford Fosgate Prime R1693 6x9" coaxials for R694.26
Add R570.00 for installation
When the bucks allow add the Rockford Fosgate Prime R300.4 amplifier for R1987.00
Rockford Fosgate Prime R1S412 12" subwoofer costs R844.28 excluding the box.
These things sound very good and can really pound if the mood takes you.

Re: Cheap setup for SQ
How much would a set of 5.5 or 6.5" splits in the prime range cost?? With kick panels in a bug??

Re: Cheap setup for SQ
For what it's worth, good advice from the guys above. I would rather buy fewer higher quality speakers than more, supposedly more powerful cheaper speakers. The one jack of all trades speaker I absolutely love has to be the 10" limpets. They aren't named after weapons for nothing. But as Tony rightly states, they have to be driven by an amp. Set of these and a pair of splits up front, and you are sorted.

Personally for SQ the best start would always be Splits a sub and an AMP. Maybe co-axs in the back for some rear fill running of the Head Unit. A nice four channel would do it for you.
When you go to a concert... The performer is always in front. Dig? Thats the reasoning for having all the sound in front. Your sub only plays Sub Bass that intergrates with the Splits to sound like its coming from in front and you're A for Away. With that budget you have some fiddling but I have some Phillips Splits that can do a brill job for around R650.00 and some more goodies
