Evening FellowDubbers
My brother replace his old beaten up 31 Solex with a brand new vw golf carb, he modified the intake to suite the new carb. It sits higher than the old carb on the new intake.
The major is problem, the car starts and idles nicely but when you want to accelerate it just dies. We checked the intake for vacuum leaks and its all water tight. The carb it self has farious vacuum lines and we dont know where to connect the rest.
Can the Golf carb run with the standard fuel pump?
1300 twinport, vacuum advance distributor
Thanks in advance

Just off the top of my head, one would think that each type of carb, be set for that model and should you use it on an other engine, the jetting would have to be adjusted for it.
If the vacuum pipes are not used, they must be blocked off at the very least.
To get it running, you may need to disconnect the jet pump, till you have it running right, as this will be too much fuel for the engine.
Hope you come right.

hi there, i did the conversion and it runs awesome. Cant explain your problem, but it is worth persuing. Make sure that you have all the vacuum pipes sorted. The only one realy worth worrying about is the vacuum advance - block the rest off. Keep the vacuum system for the second barrel in place though. Make sure that your jets are not blocked, Even new carbs can get dirt in and block up. The satndard pump is fine., Give me a call 082092406456 Phillip
