What a Bummer, had I known, I would have been knocking at your door till it came off the hinges.....

Tell you what, if you looking for parts for the Hummel, here is a web site that has most every thing.

Had to persuaded them to add Suid Africa to their list of supply country's, but hay, it was worth it.

http://www.zweirad-union-mopeds.de

Do not forget to click on the top left box "Hauptshop Deutsch" to change to English.

Good luck, and please post pic's of your gems here on this thread......Pleeeeeeeeaaaase

Hi Guys,
Can any of you please tell me where I can get a 3.5" head light.

Image

Need it for the Deek.

The chrome ring needs to be 4" or 100 mm dia.

Any body in the parts dept. that can recommend a Spot light that can be converted maybe...???

So my Gold,.... sorry, ..parts have arrived from Germany

With the rand where it is, the price of the parts was high, but the shipping and customs was even higher.

ANYWAY, now we can get the deek going , or so we hope....

This is the hand full of parts needed,

But the most important was the rubber bands for the front wheel suspension.... yes, it only uses these rubber bands for the front wheel.

Now all I have to do, is to try and convince "Hubcap" to part with a headlight......... Please... pretty please... :D

Will post pic's when parts are fitted.

thanks for looking.

OK so no joy with the head light, my plea for some golden hens teeth, from other DKW Hummel owners, have found a mass of deaf ears.

So I went off to our local bike stripper, and found some "near size" head light systems.

So as these things now days all come from China, and are made of recycled plastic, I had to cut, change, re-fit, adapt, modify, extend, elongate, and just plane "make a plan"

Well the result is a nice fitting dim/bright with park head light, that will fool most, and will work till the real McCoy is found.

Got the magneto and the dynamo working today, so now we have spark, as well as lights.

With the new spark plug on the short shopping list, we will go forth into the spare part world, and locate a "interchangeable" plug to get her running.

having most, or all, (I hope) parts, we should have her running soon.

Will keep you informed.

Found a replacement NGK plug, fitted the magneto, and power coils, and placed a petrol rage on the air filter,
peddled it a bit, and she started right up.

Removed the carb, cleaned the 25 years of dirt out the tank, and fitted a few new cables,

cleaned the petrol tap and filter, and reassembled it all.

Now we will have to get the other cables done, and then re-fit the carb.

Then we will start it on its own fuel system.

Till then

I remember @Pine had some small spot lights for sale :?
Maybe they're the correct size :?:

Yes you are correct, Pine was selling these small spot lights.

In fact I did buy 2 sets off him for my two VW's.

But they not the correct size. but thanks to that.

Did in fact make up a light that looks very professional and much like a 55 year old head light, will take a pic soon to show you.

Had the fun of starting her up on her own fuel system today. Still need to correct the timing to the correct setting, but she run like a dream, and that after being in storage for over 25 years.

Had so much fun, that I had to be dragged out the smoke filled workshop, before being over come by the 2 stroke oily smoke.

Hell , was that great........ :D

Thanks for looking.

Well, we, that be the 3 of us, me myself and I, have got this DKW Hummel running.

As stated before, the bike will stay the same as found, but running.

Have a look at the light.

Well guys, I am trying to get out of having to work on building the house, so I went into the garage, and dug out the DKW Hummel, from its resting place at the far wall.

It was put there due to work load, Fastback gearbox change, Split Beetle body repair, Fleetline Body repair, and house building, not to mention the two flat wheels........

So off came the wheels, in went two new tubes, and back on the bike, with a bit of compressed air..... 8)

2stroke fuel in the tank, squirt of quick start in the carb, and she light up on the 2nd peddle after 16 months of standing. What a girl.. :D

How much joy it is again to ride her around the place as she is so very willing to please.

Well till later

Thanks for shearing, that looks to be a early 1950's basic model

pity it was painted, but it still has all the original bits that normally gets lost.

Very Nice, looks to have still been ridden daily till deep into 1971.

Now thats service.
