Also what number Westy is yours on the back seat plate? Would be interesting to see what numbers we have in ZA mine is #0155
I will double check, but I am sure there is no plate on mine. I am not that familiar with the Westy numbering system.

Re: 1970 Westfalia
I have no idea. I have observed that on some earlybay SA westies, the plate is not there and there is no sign it ever was. Most of them seem to have it though.sean wrote:Definitely not on mine. Re: 1970 Westfalia
Just checked my Westy: SO67R 0208 1970. My plate is on the LHS bottom of the wooden base of the bed. I wonder how many Westy's were sold in SA?

From Barrydale, thats also where the 2 Autovillas came from, Paul got one of them?
In a previous post,

Derek asked: " But the question remains unanswered - does anyone know what happened regarding the sale of these kombi's?"

Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Re: 1970 Westfalia
Hehe - I did a rough calculation at the time that the guy wanted R 130 000 for that Westy based on his R 300 000 asking price for the collection....I trust that Sean got it at a better price than that though It's one of those gems by the look of it...

Re: 1970 Westfalia
Just a few updated pics of the Westy.
Since acquiring it, I have rectified the bumpers and wheels. Both had been powder coated white (so hideous) which i resprayed the correct colour. I also chucked the incorrect 195R14 tyres and fitted the correct 185R14 tyres. I also got a friends grandma to make me some new curtains. I searched far to find material as close as possible to the original variety, but didn't find anything the same. I did however settle on the material in the pics which doesn't look out of place at least.

Re: 1970 Westfalia
Awesome find congrats. Love the colour.
I still have a long way before mine looks anything close.
PS. What colour did you use for the rims and bumper?

Don't know what its called. I always just take a actually original sample to a paint shop and they use a spectrometer on the sample to determine the mix.

Re: 1970 Westfalia
2 weeks ago I collected something very special to this bus and it had been missing for some years it seems. I bought the bus believing it was gone for good.
Well, this had re-appeared amoungst the seller (Mark Saul) household contents during a clean up. Its original owners manual, service book, Campmobile book and a little service diagnostic book.
Here's just a pic of one of the VW service invoices from 1973. Just take a look at these prices.
