My guess would be bad fuel. Problem started shortly after the fuel stop.

Re: Retrovans 75 Fleetline panelvan - Project
Started her and drove her into the garage, she started easy and idled OK but with a miss. Low on power but definitely not flooding.
Pulled the plugs and drained the fuel.
#'s 1 & 3 where covered with wet sticky oily black deposit, when washed in petrol, came clean to the light tan colour they normally run at.
#'s 2 & 4 where slightly black with the same gunk but still had the dry light tan showing through.
The fuel has a bit of a stink to it but not as diesel as I would expect it to be if mixed. but with my nose,
Off to the spares shop for new set of plugs, will remove the fuel tank out let and flush it just to be sure.
Will let you know
Herman

Hi Terry,Terry Phillips wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 11:40 am Herman what size tyres you got on the Fleet Line and rims.
Running 196/70 by 15 on the front
And 215 / 65 by 15 on the back.
Both front and back rims have been widened and are now 6 and a half J
The speedo is spot on at that size, and the back makes it look butch, which I like.
if I do not keep the tyres clean, they touch at the back ...
AND just to stop the purists starting a bun fight, about them not being Commercial, and taking my life into my hands.........
Both front and back are load rated at over 800Kg each, and high speed, so can take sidewall pressure as well as carrying load of a total of 3200Kg
That will do me fine as I have a much more pleasant ride then they do.

Do you actually mean the old 3.5" 1.44MB floppy disks (stiffy)? I didn't know people still used them. It's amazing that you fitted a whole video on it!

Re: Retrovans 75 Fleetline panelvan - Project
OK, So the Fleetline is up and running again.
But lets go back to this morning, after I got the new set of spark plugs.
Fitted them and started her, and would you believe it ..... still the same.
Now by now I have drained the tank, and found noting.
And as I have got twin Weber's, one on each side, it did not make sense that one piston on each side was not running."
1 & 3 where ice cold, and 2 & 4 would burn your hand, so it could not be the carb's
(edited by Herman)
Had a look at the spark, and found that # 1 & 3 were not sparking.
So that leaves the dizzy, maybe the shaft got bent or the bush got worn on two sides as the spark leads come off the cap at 180 Deg from each other.
Checked the cap, and there was no crack from the long trip the day before. Even replaced the spark leads, but still the same.
Out of desperation, I fitted the Golf electronic unit I removed from the beetle in a hope it now worked, but no, still dead.
Took out the dizzy, and checked the shaft, the bushes, the off-center pickup, the points for play, but nothing to indicate why two opposite pistons would not fire, when the other two are still running.
Replaced the dizzy, and placed her on her mark, now you may ask..."What mark.." well I have learnt a long time ago, when still in shorts, that when you get your timing JUST right, you mark the dizzy shaft and the engine case so that at any time you can remove the dizzy, work on it and fit it back to perfect timing.
Started her up and she run like a Swiss clock............... for two minutes........ then the same
So now you know all the facts, you tell me where I finally found the fault
And no, it was not inside the engine, that part is fine.
Till tomorrow, let see how many get the fault.
Enjoy..

Well if you took that long to find it, here's a long shot.
Grease from underneath the fuel pump is getting into the petrol somehow and then building up on the plugs.
Told you it was a long shot.

Replaced the coil, no difference, coil was fine.also checked the plug wires, also fine.
Good to hear from you Dave.hitlers revenge wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 7:38 pm Well if you took that long to find it, here's a long shot.

Electric low pressure pump matched to Weber carbs,
No but very good long shot.

I'd want to say flat cam lobe, but you said its not inside the engine.
So, next guesses are worn/bend distributor clamp allowing dizzy to turn. Or a broken vacuum balance line on your ICT setup
