Hi All.

I’m from Liverpool, England and I have a South African built 412 Variant - imported to the U.K. around 2015.

I’m currently in the process off a full restoration.

I wonder if anybody remembers this car. Photo of it when it was in South Africa. 🙂

Lots of Fleetline owners on here. I have 3 (2 of them dormant projects).

How about some pics of your bus?

Hi! My name is Joe and I live in Los Angeles, California. I have a 1960 SO 23 Westy, South Africa delivery, RHD. I am hoping to get some insight into the motor. Can't seem to find anything remotely resembling the engine code. I am assuming (hoping) since the delivery code of SF for South Africa is the first letters of the engine code, it was unique to South Africa? Anyway, any insight is appreciated and hi!

Hi Joe.

What is the exact birth date of your westfalia?

Perhaps you can share the M plate?

The engine number starting with SF will not be its original engine. Share the full number.

Cheers
Sean

Yeah I’m assuming it’s a South African rebuilt perhaps before it was shipped to the UK?

Your engine code is C0. This is a 1600.

The SF is South African and the R is for a replacement. This is obviously the incorrect engine for your bus. The bus it originated from (early baywindow) obviously had a replacement engine installed at one point and that engine number with SF and R would have been stamped on it.

Just purchased me a '74 Beetle.

Hello, Graham Ross from Noosaville, just a little North of Brisbane. Originally from Stellenbosch. I have a very original 1994 2.6 Caravelle ( CL 52435 ) which was successfully relocated to Australia. I am hoping that one of the technical members can steer in in the right direction - just recently, when switching on the air conditioning, the electric fan kicks in immediately. It does so even if I try it in the garage before start up. Many thanks and kind regards, Graham.
