When on a visit in Portugal in 1988 I came across a couple of odd looking 411/412, at least I thought they were 411/412's, they looked similar but were smaller in size, about the size of a type 3 square-back, this one was a 2 door, I think it is called a Brasilia in the US, the other funny one I saw was similar to the one above but had different head lights and was a 4 door, I have no idea what it was or is, never even seen one in a magazine, I think they were both produced in Brazil and exported to Portugal. The first one had an upright type 1 motor the other I have no idea it had no motor, both were abandoned at a scrap heap.
For what it's worth, ignorance has no limits ......

I might as well chip in as well
I got a 1969 T1... built in JHB and looks fairly similar to how it was when I got it... even though the the body has had a lot of changes, as well as the suspension, interior, brakes and engine.
VX1s all round, discs all round, decent sized sound system. Suspension lowered slightly and set to be rock hard - the car handles like a go-kart
engine, 1596cc, runs well, runs hard and is fun, but like everything else, it has a problem or two

The SP2 was released in 1972 whereas the souf effrican SP came in 76 earlier we had the fun bug also with Rev counter. the type threes had revcounters only as an option since 61 and the Karmann Ghias had them as an option in the fifties. The South african SP was actually a copy of a Brazilian Beetle called the Super Fusca (Fusca is Brasillian speak for Beetle) The only original to Sa parts on the Sp was the spoiler, rear badge and rear apron and exhaust.

Hmm - I also voted Baja Bug, with no sign of it appearing on the poll. Humph. Ah well, I'll have to tell you about her then.
Beverley Bug is my 1977 S-Beetle based Baja. She has a Beamish California kit on the front and Beamish Sport kit on the back. Engine is reasonably standard, but has been rebored to about 1.76l and had electronic ignition, Weber 32DGAV carb, K&N air filter, EMPI oil pump with spin-on filter and j-tubed stainless exhaust fitted. At next rebuild I am going with hardened steel valve seats to run unleaded, but that will have to wait a while.
She runs well, both on-road and off-road, and is my daily transport.

One only 1971 1600 beetle. Will get a few more I hope. How do I ad my vote, fearless leader?
