Re: Power Inverter - 1000 watt
Estimated Watts
When selecting a power inverter, please make sure it has enough power for your appliance. Just add together the watts for each item you may want to run at the same time. Keep in mind to also add about 15% to the total wattage to ensure you will have enough power to meet your needs.
The estimated watts for the appliances below are estimates; please check your manual or the appliance itself for the actual wattage required. Doing this will ensure you select the correct inverter the first time.
Please use this easy formula to determine the correct size DC to AC power inverter if you only have Amps:
AMPS x 120 = Watts
Example: 15 Amp Cooling Unit X 120 = 1800 Watts
Appliance Est. Watts
Cell Phone 24w CD Player 40w
iPod 120w Toaster 1200w
TV 25 Inch 175w Jig Saw 350w
Laptop Computer 65-90w Circular Saw 1250w
Computer & Monitor 400w 1/2" Drill 700w
Printer 75w Refrigerator 500w
VCR 50w Vacuum 750w
CPAP 200w Sump Pump 1000w
Blender 400w 40" Fan 1100w
Space Heater 1000w Iron 1000w
Coffee Maker 800w Satellite Dish 75w
Microwave 1250w PS2, Xbox 125w

Re: Power Inverter - 1000 watt
Can I correct?
Power (Watts) = Volts * Current(amps)
In South Africa the standard voltage is 230V thus it should be:
Watts = 230 x Amps
A question on your inverters, is it square wave or pure sine wave inverters? As one can not operate motors efficiently on square wave inverters as far as I know.

Spot on Korn -
Motors, including diaphram type compressors that fridge's have will not start on a non sine wave inverter.
