Hi Sarel

SF means the engine has been rebuild. It would have originally only started with CU.

You are correct about this being from a T3. It can not be 2.5L, only 2L.

I see in your profile that you have a 72 baywindow?

This engine is incorrect for a baywindow, unless you love angle grinders and welders.

All the ancillaries on the motor does not fit, including the flywheel inside the gearbox.

Being a 72 model, it should be a 1700 type 4 motor if in a bus or a 1600 type 1 motor if its a commercial vehicle or standard kombi.

Actually SF says it was built in the VWSA Uitenhage factory.
R says it had a case replacement.
Rebuilds usually just had the VW exchange logo after the engine number.
