Type 4 2 Liter Single Carb Manifold.

Post by WestyMS »

Hi All,

I recently reconditioned my type 4 engine for my 1973 Westfalia and the previous owner moved from a dual carb Solex setup to a single carb setup using a Golf MK1 1800 carb.

The base unit were the carb is connecting to seems to not allow the air / fuel mixture to flow freely as the is no splitting mechanism to flow the fuel equally.

It seems to be a botch job as it literately a flat base square metal box.

Issue I am experiencing now is a heavy flat spot when trying to get refs.

It eventual comes right but not good for stop start traffic.

Anyone perhaps selling a base unit that is fit for purpose?

feedback will be appreciated.

Regards

It will never work correctly.

Throw it away and fit the standard Solex dual carburettors. Your problem will then be solved.

If you don't want to consider used or original, then you can use dual Weber ICT's or IDF's.

Thanks all for the reply. I believe that Volkspares also sells type 4 parts so will call around for best price.

Not sure if this will help but I have 2 CU 2l motors ( well actually 1 and a half) with carbs and manifolds.
These need to be repaired.
Can send whatsapp pics if anyone is interested.
