Fig I hear what you say, but we now have consumer laws,
If you have a single guy, being done in, it will be hard to prove.
But if someone like Cart Blanca does an full investigation, from local and overseas guys, You may find they will land up with a good public case.

Re: Kombi's for Sale - Centurion
I think that's wishful thinking Herman. I'm not sure the CPA applies to private deals, and appearing on Carte Blanche may be embarrassing, but not much else will come of it and this guy apparently has no shame.
Nothing will happen unless the people he preyed on gang up and take him on with commitment.

Re: Kombi's for Sale - Centurion
There are special conditions/requirements attached to the recent special rebate introduced by Sars for importing "vintage" or racing cars.
One of these conditions clearly states:
"The vehice may not be offered, lent, hired, leased, pledged, given away, exchanged, sold, or otherwise be disposed of in the SACU for a period of two years from the date of clearance for home consumption into the Republic". (Itac report 558, Nov 2017, etc)
Value should not have been "under declared" to save on VAT. In other words, if SARS sees it immediately advertised with nothing done to it, for say R300000, then Sars could use that figure to confirm if correct amount of VAT was paid.

The CPA does not apply to private deals.

This did exist. That particular bus is now standing at Grand Slam in the Strand. Owned by a lady called Vicky.fig wrote: ↑Tue May 15, 2018 6:09 pm And another one from the same seller as the previous one I posted. "Delivery lead time 3-4 weeks from contract". I wonder if it's off shore.
And I also wonder if the source of all these is Guillermo.
Does anyone know anyone who has actually bought one of these? What was their experience? There was the woman on Facebook, who apparently had to rebuild the engine and respray the bus, before she asked here for advice on converting it to a samba ...
It is mechanically wasted in every possible way, everything is being done over. The doors cant open and close properly, its chassis has been repaired with newspaper.

Interesting. I figured this might be someone selling a Tyl bus, but the pics in the ad are taken at his place in Pringle Bay, so assumed it was him selling.sean wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 7:37 pm This did exist. Wasn't Vicky the person who chimed in on some of the FB posts about LHD Braz buses, saying she had bought one of them, newly "restored", then later complained about it needing repairs and respray? I think she also signed up here and may have posted somewhere on this site? She also PMed me at some stage looking for info on Braz VINs.

Re: Kombi's for Sale - Centurion
It's risky to buy these imported vehicles. Aside from being lhd, Sars Customs have strict rules. Hundreds of vehicles are being impounded and sold on auctions each year when rules are violated. Some cars at auction sold only on condition that the buyer then remove vehicle from country. Sometimes cars are crushed. Just search Sars customs auctions to get an idea.
Don't know if he kept these vehicles for the required minimum period of 2 years (applicable to used vehicles), before selling.

Re: Kombi's for Sale - Centurion
I often just read through these threads, and let me tell you most of the people here can just windge moan and criticise lije old ladies at a tea party, where their beloved, split, camper, low life actually looks like a pile of hippy crap, and usually the one whom cannot afford it doesn't have enough pride has the mist to say.
So let's get some gossiping fact straight!!!!
1) I have been looking for a splitty for 5 years, buying just a shell was not an option as I would not know where to start or even source spares, so when I bought my bus, I went in with my eyes wide open, was there things to be done? yes, was I prepared to spend more money, yes. This is my issue and you don't get to put your 2 cents in
2) I never complained, it has a bad spray job, and needed repairs, I knew thus buying her, and as for the repairs and spray job, she is not up to my standards!!!
3) As for Grand Slam, well that need to put their money where their mouth is,but don't worry I will take up that issue with them directly about their work manshio and cover up's
4) I was very excited to get my bus and learn as much as I could, from all of you by asking questions and advice, but instead I get ridiculed and laughed at(and I am generalizing here and still need to be proven wrong) but it seems like this community is just a lot of whingeing, complaining (insert insulting word) whom just want to snicker and insult
4) The people whom work in this community whom have the biggest opinions, they are the in me whom cannot even give a proper service even though the charge a premium, and you know whom you are, try and get one guy to be prepared and sand down to mettle and then spray - oh no just want to do a which overspray and charge 50k.
WOW - I actually enjoyed being a key board warrior today just like all of you.
P.S to all you naysayers, she went through road worthy first time with flying, colours!!!

Re: Kombi's for Sale - Centurion
Wow! Am I confused now.
I thought most of the members here were trying to help you by warning you about Tyl and the busses he sells and so on? But you did anyway. Hope you're happy with your splitty.
I agree, there are a few "renowned" workshops and specialists in Cape Town who are jokers, but I don't think anyone here recommended any of them to you. I may be wrong tho. Our leader "fig" in JHB is without a doubt, one of the most knowledgeable people here and is always a offering a helping hand.
I can vouch for the bodyshop I used, who did my paintjob and did it properly, for much less than what you quoted, and mechanically, Andreno Motors in Villiersdorp. the rest, I did myself as I was forced to.
Cheers, and all the best with your Splitty.
Alan

Re: Kombi's for Sale - Centurion
Excuse my precious Typos , did not proof read it before submitting.
Alan - by the time I first made contact here I had already bought the bus. So it was a little too late for the warning.
You are quite correct no one here reccomende anyone, but these "specialists" are the same with a lot to say
(but what just gets to me are the snide opinions, bitchiness, absolute gossip and utter nonsense opinions people have)
In saying that I still want to learn and have buckets full to learn and find this a very frustrating experience - and for the sake of learning I would like to challenge you please show me a splitty you would have bought and why ( criteria - a local splitty, running and 90% ok)
Regards,
Vicky

Re: Kombi's for Sale - Centurion
I have been reading through this thread today,
I was not scammed by Ty, if anyone can prove they have been scammed will be happy to give all his info, I also have access to get most current info that I will share, just dm me
My question to all of you are, the pics of busses advertised are taken outside his house in Pringle bay - what has happened to all these busses? Why are they not seen on the roads?

Re: Kombi's for Sale - Centurion
Thanks Vicky,
early on in the thread, people started posting how to get hold of him due to promises made of busses, and not receiving what was advertised, including overseas people. So, I think there are a few people who have had their fingers and bank accounts burnt by this guy, so, the "general" feeling toward him is one of un-happiness. When you joined, and posted on FB and here about buying one, the guys were obviously very interested.
The snyde comments etc are not aimed at you at all, (I don't think), so, thats why I said I for one am confused at your reaction.
Congrats on getting the bus roadworthied, according to a number of people, this seems to be a very difficult task to accomplish considering these are imported busses.. Maybe yours wasn't, I can't be sure, but at least yours is on the road legally. Are you enjoying the bus or still in the process then of re-painting etc?
As for your question on buying a splitty, personally, I have owned one panel van many years back. I'd never buy another one, they are too small, (in comparison to my Bay Window), and too precious to use as a daily, (in my opinion). Some guys do run around in them and use them regularly, but in my mind, they are hugely valuable, and need to look right. Out of the bunch, Im sure a 23 Window Samba would be my first choice, if money wasn't an option, however, they are like hen's teeth now.
Anyway, hope yours is going well, wishing you many safe and happy miles in it.
regards
Alan
