Hi Guys
I please need your help on rejetting my dual Solex 32/34 PDSIT's... I believe that they are off the Baywindow 2l CJ engines, and for obvious reasons, they are flooding under pull away load, whereas running like a dream in 4th gear on my 1600 beetle engine
Does anyone have any ideas with regards to the main and air correction jets I could try to use to cut down on the trial and error time?
Your assistance would be appreciated!!

Re: Solex 32/34 PDSIT
Wont say i'm an expert ,Calooker and others also have experience with 32/34 PDSIT carbs on a beetle.
Needle valve should be 1.2mm. Some carb kits for these have 1.5mm needle valves, wich are too big. Sometimes the gasket in the kit is of different thickness, causing incorrect float level.
These carbs are very sensitive to fuel pressure, they dont like high pressure electric pumps. With the mechanical VW pump, thicker gaskets or a spacer can be used underneath to reduce the pressure if it is too high.
What is your float levels set at? (With carb top off, measure distance between fuel level in float chamber and top of carb).
VW specify 12 to 14mm for these. Found that 12mm is a bit high, (sometimes causes overflow after a hot engine is switced off, especially with an early beetle decklid with no air intakes). Best is to aim for 14mm. Use thicker washer under the needle valve to lower float level if neccessary.
Standard jetting for 2L baywindow (according to haynes manual):
Needle valve:1.2mm
Venturi diameter:26mm
Main jet:Manual gearbox: 132.5
Automatic gearbox: 135
Air correction jet: 160
Pilot jet: 52.5
Air cleaner is very critical on these carbs. They like the +-230mm extension tubes to the central air cleaner of the 2L engine. If these are replaced with an air cleaner directly on top of the carb, it will run lean at full power because of different pulsations through the carb.
(Been there, tested different length extensions to the aircleaners). Even a 100 mm extension is too short to solve the problem.
Best is to drop the air correction jet from 160 to about 120 or 110 to compensate if you have the short aircleaners in a beetle application.
By the way different year 32/34 PDSIT carbs respond different to jetting changes. The emulsion tubes (which are pressed in and cannot be easily removed) have different holes.1700 , 1800, 2L baywindow and 2L 80-81models are all different from each other.

Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
