Beachway Motors (and other VW dealer badges)
Beachway Motors, a VW dealer in Durban, used to sell new ACVWs back in the day fitted with a chromed "Beachway Motors" emblem in cursive script.
Does anyone own an ACVW with one of these emblems? Does anyone have pics of one on an ACVW? Anyone have one of these badges? (for sale?)
Did any other SA VW dealers do something similar?
This tag is next to the driver's seat on my 59 Samba:

Re: Beachway Motors
I found one on a 412 a couple of years ago at VDB's
It's now on the back of our beach buggy, that has a NPS registration number, at the South Coast.

I have a 'Beachway' badge but not the 'Motors' part. Will take some pics later.

Re: Beachway Motors (and other VW dealer badges)
Phoenix Motors in Bloemfontein and Welkom (renamed Lindsay Saker a few years ago) used to put a little black and silver sticker on the back of VWs sold by them. These stickers survived the years quite well and are quite often seen on original ex-Freestate cars. Unfortunately I don't have a pic at the moment (ATT: André aka 69Bug ) but this is what their workshop job cards looked like back in the days.

Re: Beachway Motors (and other VW dealer badges)
One of the reasons I posted this was a thread on thesamba about dealer decals. I was specifically asking about metal emblems and tags but, since Pine has referred to decals, let's open this up some more.

Re: Beachway Motors (and other VW dealer badges)
That is something very unique, Merlin! Do you know what happened to the rest of the car? What year model was it?
Capital Motors was probably the sole importers of performance parts in the 60's & early 70's in SA, note how they claimed ownership of the EMPI Sprintstar wheel with the name 'Capital Rallaye Wide-Rims' in this 1974 ad -

It's been some years now, but I seem to recall '63 being mentioned...I could be wrong.Pine wrote:That is something very unique, Merlin! Do you know what happened to the rest of the car? What year model was it?
The door was the only remnant for some strange reason. I suspect the car was in a big prang. It's preserved as I got it - damaged parts and dirt included.
It had clearly been left to return to nature many decades before I came across it.

Re: Beachway Motors (and other VW dealer badges)
Not ACVWA, but Dam pointed this old 70's automatic Golf with a Beachway Motors emblem out to me at Piston Ring this morning (thanks Dam!) - sorry for the k@k cell picsfig wrote:Beachway Motors, a VW dealer in Durban, used to sell new ACVWs back in the day fitted with a chromed "Beachway Motors" emblem in cursive script.

I do however recall other Beachway Motors emblems being one piece, not seperate as this one?
Hubcap also had this interesting Pomona Porsche sticker on his trailer. I was at Pomona Porsche near the Airport many years ago and bought a set of Cookie Cutters for the brown 412 from them - never saw so many 911 corpses all together at once again!
