That's looking really nice. :hangloose:

I am so glad this Westi was saved, still can't believe someone had taken it for scrap.

I needed to get some metal replaced in the engine bay, which was cut off for the DJ conversion.
I took a day off work on Thursday and went through to Van den Brink to get the 2 pieces that I needed. They could not help me at that stage and said they would phone me back, which they never did.
Out of frustration, I fabricated it myself, and I am happy with the end result. The engine is ready to be installed :-)

Thanks Herman,
I can't wait to put this bus back on the road! Next is the engine. It's built and just needs to go in. Hopefully I can do it tonight.

Pine, I've got the cd. I'm going to play it loud tonight while I'm working on Blommie

So, I'm putting the engine back and the studs are to short. They don't go through the sleeves on the bellhousing! It's a 002 gearbox with a later type bellhousing. The sleeve on the later gearbox are about 18mm longer.

Are you sure the Clutch plate has been lined up, or that the spigot shaft fits into the engine bush, or the clutch plate spigot splines are incorrect, sounds more like the engine is not fully in......

I am sure, the rear engine mounts line up as well. I've got a early 002 gearbox in the garage, and I measured the sleeve length. The original bellhousing is 44mm and the later one is 60mm. I'm now worried that the thrust might sit deeper as well on the late bellhousing. It was previously a DJ conversion.

I think the starter is also different. You probably need to find an original early 1600 bellhousing.

I love the progress you're making on this bus. See you at the 2012 KKKult kamp-out! I hope you're still making progress on Norm ...

You are right Fig, the starter shaft is longer. There is a sleeve before gear.

I spoke to IMPI and he said that the later bellhousing should work with the type I engine. He is going to give me the longer studs.
One way to find out......
Norm's bodywork should be finished in December. Let's wait and see.
