I swapped gearboxes around today to see if my 72's is better. The mountings and rear bell housing is different. Had to use a different starter and swop the studs in front to make the mounting fit
Also saw why the gearchange is so sloppy. A garden hose mounting is not the same as the real thing

The other gearbox is fitted and the howling sound is something of the past. Also connected the oil temp gauge and sensor

I am battling to select 2nd gear though. Will have to figure out what is wrong there. Any suggestions?

May have to reset your gear lever.

Put the gear box into 2nd, and loosen the bolts on the gear lever, hold the lever to the left, against the stop, and nip up the bolts.

should be OK, if not, repeat......

Thanks Herman, getting 2nd gear, now to find 1st!
Also trying to fit a rev counter to look stock. Here is a mock up I did last night.

And here is it working.

Cleaned and re-greased the gear leaver selector plate, still battling with finding the gears. All I can think of now is to replace the plastic bushes on the linkage. Any suggestions?

Looking good Didi. Did you have to clearance the hole for the tacho? I did not want to do that to mine, but now that I have a few extra gauge clusters, I'll hopefully get round to mounting mine properly one day.

Now you just need a white needle for the tacho.

No clearance needed. It was a straight bolt on. I had to fabricate a bracket to hold it though.

Was at Werner Alker today and he helped me to sort out the play on the gearleaver. He made this grommet/guide tube because mine was worn out. The difference is unbeleavable




We also fixed the play on the steering and got the heaters working. (funny how quickly those can be sorted in the winter)

New kick panels from a forum member and a parcel tray

Muds posted me this radio. The hacked dash is now concealed and I have music in the bus
It took me a while to feed the wires through the A pilar and drop the wooden rooflining but it was all worth it.

looking good, so many bay window dashboards have been butchered when newer radios were fitted - cool parcel tray, did you make it ?

Jolas, I bought the parcel tray from Kevi in Centurion. He brought in a bunch of stuff somewhere in last year, mainly for split busses but I managed to get this tray and some door pockets. Kind of handy when you are drinking a Coke. There is nowhere to put it when you are driving.

What a save, we hope you and the family will get many years of joy from her/him,good job well done by all involved.
I get my 69 high roof camper tomorrow , I have a T25 camper but I think the T2 will be special as it has its own character.
It is complete but needs work so I might have to ask you and others for some assistance and advice on where to get spares and how to do some restoration etc.
This is a perfect example of the enjoyment of owning and working on your own project and it must have been very rewarding for all involved.
