Re: Kombi's for Sale - Centurion

Post by Derek »

I started this very long-running thread, and at the time I was wondering about kombi's being offered for sale at high prices in Gauteng. The thread morphed into a place where concerned members posted about suspect or dodgy deals, mainly to forewarn other members. Tyl crept into the thread due to reports of people not getting what they paid for, slow delivery, etc. There have not been any people posting positive feedback on Tyl up to now, with Vicky being the first as far as I can recall.

So Vicky, at last we have someone on the forum who can give a first hand account of dealing with Tyl. Are you saying that the report that your van was at Grand Slam, was filled using newspaper and was 'wasted in every possible way and needed everything done over' was not true, and that you were in fact happy with your purchase?

Newby wrote: Sat Sep 22, 2018 1:09 pm I often just read through these threads, and let me tell you most of the people here can just windge moan and criticise lije old ladies at a tea party, where their beloved, split, camper, low life actually looks like a pile of hippy crap, and usually the one whom cannot afford it doesn't have enough pride has the mist to say.
So let's get some gossiping fact straight!!!!
1) I have been looking for a splitty for 5 years, buying just a shell was not an option as I would not know where to start or even source spares, so when I bought my bus, I went in with my eyes wide open, was there things to be done? yes, was I prepared to spend more money, yes. This is my issue and you don't get to put your 2 cents in
2) I never complained, it has a bad spray job, and needed repairs, I knew thus buying her, and as for the repairs and spray job, she is not up to my
4) I was very excited to get my bus and learn as much as I could, from all of you by asking questions and advice, but instead I get ridiculed and laughed at(and I am generalizing here and still need to be proven wrong) but it seems like this community is just a lot of whingeing, complaining (insert insulting word) whom just want to snicker and insult
Hi Vicky

Did you actually meet Tyl in person at his house? Or did you have to pick up this kombi from a storage yard?

If you feel this was the best kombi to purchase over the last 5 years, you clearly haven't done your research properly. Obviously you have issues due to buying a kombi from the worst possible seller in the country. You purchased a lemon. You did not ask advice from members of the forum first, you only investigated after purchasing your bus. Most members on this forum have more VW's than you can only dream of and have between 20 to 30 years of experience owning them.

Sean, yes went to look at her at his house in Pringle bay, what I meant by "Best buy" what were my options, buying a shell and building her up from there, I would not know where to start finding, sourcing parts etc or buying something relatively complete/driveable that I can enjoy now and do necessary changes rather than have her have stand in a garage for 2/3 years while rebuilding and do it bit by bit and going nowhere slowly - so for now I am making lemonade from my lemon and enjoying driving her , beating the odds

Interesting. They put the Pringle Bay house on the market last year. Maybe too many people knew where to find them ...

I did mention it to the PI, he's aware of the thread and has been in contact with members as well. But can't force him to post updates, so, lets see, hopefully he gives us feedback.
