SP Beetle production figures

Can anyone possibly help with how many 1600 SP Beetles were produced and sold in South Africa?

I was hoping that the Auto Data Digest could give us the figures, but they only cover total SA 1600 Beetle production over the relevant years. The black SP Beetle was a limited edition of 50 (numbered) models, so at least we know there were more than 50 of every other colour?

I did ask a friend that knows the SP's well.
He said 2096 was produced. That includes the 50 Midnight Black ones that came with a certificate.

That figure sounds realistic, but how is it verified? To the best of my knowledge there is no indication on the VIN plate of a Beetle that it is an 'SP' model, there is also no serial number elsewhere on the car?

The 114Z number on the body plate is for the SP model.

Not sure if there are any other numbers that are the specific production numbers.
