Seems to me, you need a 2.0 Golf engine with 2l box

I always ask my clients what the budget is
And some people take it the wrong way
As they think it is all about money making
All though yes it is all about the money
I need to know what package I can give you as the Wishlist is 100% of the time far higher speck as the client can Afford

I did not give up my Trucking company 5 years ago to do work twice as hard for less money
I did it because Vw have always been in my Blood and I really enjoy what I do

As Tony mentioned pricing of 1600 cc

Our 1600cv recon subs which do last are more Expensive than most out there but the are for a reason they last


You can build a 1600 and cost R50k
All depends what goes in the build

What is nice about Today's social media is without to much effort you get a lot of info so you welcome to get more info and come visit me and I am as always willing to help or just Give Advice as always before on the Forum before Vdubtech started

I will try post a video of my Single cab Splity first stage long ratio box and 1600 motor doing Speedo and GPS 120km/h but not built to do it all day long

This is a trip report Dixon did with his Bus just after restoring it
and Pierre did work for him on the Bus i am not sure exact detail of the build but Pierre and Dixon might
be able to tell U more

If you want a split bus that cruises at modern freeway speeds then you obviously need more power but, even more importantly, you will need a lot more STOPPING power. It’s worth keeping in mind when considering a split bus that, should you fail to stop for an obstacle, your legs are the crumple zone.

Remember that a car is a system. If you change one element in a system, you inevitably set up a chain reaction of changes throughout the system. Going faster means you need better brakes. It also implies you need better handling. If you push more power into the drivetrain you may need to strengthen the transmission. Etc, etc, etc.

I agree with what many have already said. A split bus is what it is. And it is a commercial vehicle built to meet the demand for a cheap, reliable transporter for small businesses in the aftermath of World War II. Speed and comfort were simply not part of the design brief. If you want to drive a split bus every day and over long distances, there's nothing stopping you (I do it regularly). However, you are going to have to accept that you will be doing it slowly. Noisily. Uncomfortably. If you can live with that, then go for it.

But if you want a car based on a nearly 70-year-old design to behave like a modern car, then you'll probably end up building a modern car that looks like a vintage car. And it will probably cost you the same as a modern car, or more. Of course, anything is possible. The question is whether you are aware of the full price (time and money) and are willing to pay it. Or are you going to set out with a romantic notion, start tearing your way into a vintage car, then give up when the full magnitude of the project becomes apparent, leaving yourself with a half-completed hack job that’s worth only a fraction of the money you’ve thrown at it.

It sounds like what you’re really looking for, in practical terms, is a T6 Microbus. VW even offers them in red and white 2-tone, to cater for all the split bus nostalgia.

Hello everyone. Thank you so much for all the info. Got many answers. This is one of the quotes I've received. I'm also planning to ad a power steering unit from Creative -engineering. Would this setup suit my needs? Someone mentioned that the long-ratio box might not be good for the engine.

Would anyone suggest something different, is so please pm me. Thanks
