Afternoon Gents. Just some feedback on the Vin number saga. I contacted VWSA who put me in contact with their chief Historian - John Lemon. John confirmed the fact that certain busses were not stamped and sent me a letter confirming this. Based on this plus all my other paperwork and the fantastic service from Warrant Officer du Toit I was issued with a new VIN number. This number was stamped onto the Bus and I am now legal.

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Hi Shunter. By "new VIN number" do you mean they issued you with an AAP.... number or did they stamp the 2422 120 821 number. I hate those AAP... numbers!

As you said; it’s legal now so that problem is sorted, but it’s a pity for the bus that you didn’t restore its vin plate location and keep the original number.

The original number tells you the year of manufacture, the colour it would have been, body configuration, interior colour configuration etc etc, this has now been lost for future generations.

I still have the original vin plate which has been riveted behind the seat but lower down - just SAPS won`t recognise it.

The bus basically has 2 Vin no. now. One for NATIS and one for history.
