First 1500 Beetle in South Africa

Post by Porsche »

Good day everyone

When was the first 1500 beetle available in South Africa?

I have it as 1967, but maybe it is 1968.

Regards

That was 1967. One year edition only, it was German spec, (front disc brakes, 130pcd 4-stud wheels, ball joint front suspension, etc). 67 1300 beetle, (like all locally made later model beetles,) retained drum front brakes and linkpin suspension.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).

The first 1500s in SA were 1967 models, as Dawie says. The first one sregistered would most likely have been in late 1966, as VW's 1967 model year ran from 8/66 to 7/67. In SA the VW model year usually started in November.
