I have asked about this before but I think it was using Datsun 1200 lights which I thought are what I have.It turns out the lights are for Golf one,s and my problem is the mounting plate screw hole is where a half moon cut out is on the lamp and same the other side where I fitted a L bracket. Can the Golf lights be used or do I just go and but the Datsun ones. :?

The Golf 1 semi sealed lights are the easiest to fit

If you have 3 little tags welded on the inside of the light bulge, you just line up the beam with the "TOP" in the right place and transfer the holes to the lamp mount ring supplied, drill holes and fit with self tapper screws

If you do not have these tabs, make 3 90deg. angle brackets screw to lamp mount rings, offer it up to the bulb hollow, and mark, fix with self drilling screws.

Easy, these give brilliant light. have done it to all my VW's ..... but do not tell Sean .

Please don't use golf headlights. They are incorrect for baywindows prior to 1975. From 1975 they changed to the flat glass lens, but the brackets still differ from Golf. The headlight bowl on 75 onwards busses had tabs to attach bracket and be able to aim properly. The headlight bezels also differs on these lights as they don't have the adjuster screw holes.

Rather refurbish your old ones to keep the bus correct. It would be catastrophic to have self drilling screws to attach your lens and then try and actually aim them properly with these.

I knew it..

Sean would rather drive over all the pedestrians and then crash into a tree, before fitting decent lights.

And he also never uses his display vans for enjoyable transport especially after dark.

Terry, if you do not come right with the Sean refurbishment,

and want to install the Golf 1 lights, Call me and I will talk you through it,

as you will have adjustment

as well as it looking very close to original when done right.

USA told VW to upgrade their lights in the USA market, and they did just that, so that means they knew their lights where :bn:

And if you need good lights due to old age, and because you want to enjoy your bus even at night without killing someone, then do it,

and place the original lights in a storage box marked "Sean"

should he want to buy your bus and return it to original.

Well Herman, why bother with rubbish city golf headlamps with incandescent globes, when compared to a set bi xenon or LED modern headlamps? I’m sure those golf ones will also be causing you to run into innocent children, lamp posts and peoples gardens compared to a set of modern headlamps.

Does the new light’s bracket not fit on the late bay light? Just a straight swop.
Think it is the H4 light.

As you can change the globs out for the most powerful output lights possible, you will be able to see the fear in there faces as you hit them ...

After all we do not want to stray too far away from original ..

Yes it does Jaco

Its the Hella A-3863 165 MM H4 beam with cradle,

But the 3 holes do not always line up.

So when you fit the semi sealed lamp with its cradle, it gives you full set-ability.

Just as a matter of fact,

if you replace the beetle and split bus reflector with only the semi sealed beam,

discarding the cradle that comes with the semi sealed beam,

using the original clip down clips,

you can fit these and still use the original setting screws and headlight glass

If you using the cradle, then you put a dummy screw with nut in the setting screw holes to make it look original.

All my vw's have them fitted, and I was extremely thankful I fitted them to he Fleetline before the Sani trip,

as coming home in the dead of night, they avoided a few collisions with stray animals.

Yes .. and you did not even notice when you saw the Fleetline at Sani,

Have a look at the Fleetline thread and see if you can notice its not original ....

Will take some close ups of the head light if you ask nicely ..
