According to dashboard, this looks like an "S" with round screen.

Could it be that: First the beetle hit a pole sideways just ahead of right rear wheel at high speed. At the position where many people cut a large hole in tunnel for easy access to change clutch cable, the tunnel snapped. Then hit the other vehicle? Maybe could have had some previous crash damage/ repairs before.

Saw it on one of the facebook pages over the weekend... It must have been one hell of an impact?
And how luck are you to have "minor to moderate" injuries only?

Any car can be in a collision.

But, for the driver of this beetle to have escaped with temporary swelling on the brain and a broken finger says a lot about the beetle's ability to protect its occupants in a collision.

Agreed Fig but I suppose a bit of luck also helps.Good to hear the driver is OK, if I was him I would buy a few Loto tickets.

Ouch, hope everyone involved came out ok. The high speed cars do on avg nowadays makes me worried and even in traffic the sudden braking just make me nervous of damaging the beetle..

You're not necessarily always guaranteed of excellent safety when driving a new car:
New Toyota after it struck a pole near Plattekoof road:

Then there was a picture on news24 where the barrier pierced through the radiator of some large car made in the east.
Via firewall, and came out the boot.

Its amassing how guys get so fixated on the pole in-front of them that they always steer dead center into it.

Its been proved that if you had time to center the car dead center, you would have had time to miss the pole all together.

Same as head accidents...

Its something one must train for like in advanced driving course.

Feel very sorry for the driver, shame, not sure if there where any fatality ?? any one know ??
