snorkel idea - vw beetle

Post by Ricoffy »

Hi Gents,

The farm buggy performed well on the farm this weekend. The only issue was the amount of dust that accumulated on the exposed air filter.

Do some of you perhaps have any idea on how to make a diy snorkel? What do I need to keep in mind when designing the snorkel? My main concern is that the carb must get enough air and that the longer the snorkel, the less air will get to the carb.

Cheers and thanks

I think the approaches that is used on modified 4x4s and those on especially tractors would give you a very good idea.

I would put the intake somewhere more towards the front and at least as high as where the roof would have been. Maybe you can use parts from an broken tractor?

I would suggest get a Donaldson filter from an old bakkie at a scrapyard, I used on my Baja we took to speed week and it work well.

I have see that the quick fix "farmer" way is to replace your filter with a pool cleaner hose,

cable tied to the roll bar and the original filter refitted to the end of the pipe.

Keep the engine going till you can get the expensive option.
