Those are not stock carbs. Regardless of whether they were fitted with one or 2 carbs, all ACVWs left the factory with Solex carbs.

The only factory standard twin-carb engines were 1500S type 3s, 1600SP Beetles and type4-engined kombis.

That engine could be anything inside, as over 50 years, guys have modified, swapped parts, changed and mix and matched engine parts.

So to truly know what you have is to open it and see what goodies are inside.

Just looking at that motor, would make me think its very, very far from standard.

Enjoy

That will be a badly stamped "S" not a "6"

Most VW engines are the same to repair, the only difference will be between a type 1 like yours and a type 3 or 4

You can get any manual on a 1600 beetle motor.

Your carb's are not stanard, so they will not be covered by your normal VW manual.

The best workshop manuals are the VW factory published manuals for dealers, but these are hard to find. Next is the Bentley Publishers manuals, which are somewhat condensed versions of the factory manuals. Both are expensive.

Next level is Autobooks and Haynes. These are nowhere near as detailed as factory manuals but still useful.

Then there is Intereurope and Autodata, both acceptable but quite general.

You may also come across Gregory's, later called Scientific Publications, which are published in Australia and in the same league as Autobooks and Haynes. There are also manuals published by Chilton, Glenn's and others.

You may also come across antique manuals published by Floyd Clymer, Pitman, and others who I can't recall and I'm locked down away from my library.

I don't have any Beetle manuals for sale at the moment, but I do have baywindow bus manuals from Autobooks, Haynes, Intereurope and Autodata available, for betwen R300 and R350 per manual.

If you search online, Bentley offers pdf manuals, as do a whole bunch of pirates selling illegally copied pdf manuals.

The Haynes manual is available on Takealot.com. It should be good enough to help you repair your engine. Any further info you need might be found by doing online searches or asking on air-cooled forums like these.
