Yip, I have been hard at work stripping it down for Dave.

No major issues thus far, just a few minor rust spots here and there. Must say I am quite pleased as this car is very old.

The best part though is that this vehicle will get back on the road instead of becoming scrap metal :hangloose:

Hey Brandt

Went on holiday for two weeks, then back at work and catching up on stuff.

Have decided I don't want to be trying to work on cars while lying on gravel so need to get a slab thrown under the carport before I start. Am going to get some other stuff done at the same time (slab for rabbit house, raised veg beds for the missus  etc) Bought some reinforcing rod to cut in to pegs today, need to peg it all out and then find a builder to come and give me quote.

Have you started the beast yet?

Hi Dave,

I have ruined my back somehow, so I am walking like an old man unable to do anything. The beasts chassis is being built so I am waiting on it to come back.

The engine still has no toothed wheel due to a engineering stuff up, thus I have no way of triggering the ignition. Also found out the 4 into 1 exhaust doesn't work with the external filter adapter.

Be sure to get a good reputable builder whose people won't come back to do affirmative shopping :!:

I will phone as soon as the engine is ready for start up so you can join us for the event :hangloose:

Am waiting to be able to afford to throw a slab in the car port - am nearly between contracts so don't want to be spending cash until I've sorted another contract.

Decided to find out if the donor vehicle is a runner or not. Got a pap 12v battery that was lying around and that with what charge was left in the 6v battery turned the motor over. Squirted some fuel down the throat of the carb and it nearly caught now and then but would kickback.

Did some investigation and all was loose - distributor was loose, wires were loose, carb was loose on the manifold. Took the carb off and rebuilt it (long story, two kits = R500 in total   ), static timed the engine, tightened up all wires, replaced carb, squirted fuel down the throat of the carb, tried to start it, replaced the HT leads I'd removed to be able to get at the back nut on the carb, squirted more fuel down the carb and VROOOOOOMMMM... off it went.

Drove round the back garden - vehicle has no brakes except handbrake - which I think only works on one wheel! Drove to the garage around the corner at 1kmh and pumped pap wheels. Drove back again at 1kmh.

Engine seems good - runs well, no smoke. Brakes... well... opened the bonnet and found a length of brake line which had corroded at one end and obviously had been removed. Explains the brakes.

Oh well, a bit of fun anyway.

Well for R500 it sounds like it's all good! Well done, having a good engine will save in the long run!

Hi Dave,

I really hope you get back on track soon. My project is waiting for parts/ funding. I am R20K OVER budget if I get everything done now  . I cannot afford it at the moment as I am buying a new 4x4.

If you need help, just phone me, I will gladly spend a weekend fiddling with the stuff I love.

Congratulations on getting the engine going. I think you and I must go to VS as they have great heads for a fantastic price(nudge nudge   )

Alternatively, I will take R100k for the engine(Including Gotech) and (400HP/ 3.88)gearbox with chassis(including all round disk brakes, Porsche 15" fuchs wheels and momo steering wheel) and call it a day. :D
