Re: 67 Panelvan
Got my Weber 34 ICTs back from FFR today after Dave fixed up the throttle shafts.
Reset everything to default positions. It was pretty close to running smooth straight from firing it up. I adjusted the driver side mixture screw until the engine sounded smooth. When I turned in the passenger side mixture screw nothing happened. I turned it in all the way and still nothing happens. The bushes and all gaskets looks dry. Will look for vacuum leaks tomorrow using some carb cleaner. Are there anything else that might cause this ?

Maybe you have a gasket the wrong way round.

Re: 67 Panelvan
Glade you got the 34 ICT's going, as they have received totally incorrectly bad press on this forum, by guys that could not set them.
I love them,
Hope you enjoy them as well.

Re: 67 Panelvan
stick one onto the coil mount and another onto the fan mount bolts.
Or run it from the alternator clamp over the alternator to the right side arm - thats how I do mine.

Re: 67 Panelvan
Here is howi have done it,
Used the old spring arm from the old carbs, (or make short arms ) and fitted then on the butterfly shaft, and fitted my springs as shown below.
hope it helps

Re: 67 Panelvan
Anyone know where I can get a decent fuel regulator ?
I can get an Empi one but dont really want Empi. The local parts stores dont stock them either.
My carbs have always been leaky, with floats adjusted correctly. Even the twin Solex carbs I had before the Webers leaked fuel. Did a pressure test and am about 2psi more than what I should be for the Weber carbs. My fuel pump is also right up against the alternator so I cant stack it with gaskets.
I have been hearing both ends of it -some say it's definitely required to get the carbs to run efficiently and tuned in properly.... and the other end says it does not matter how much psi you put through to the carbs.
Other alternative would also be to get an electrical fuel pump with a max of 3psi.
I would like to see for myself if there is a difference or not.

You could also modify pump by reducing the pump's spring pressure.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Hey D
Stateside has holley fuel pressure regulators. You need part number 12-804 which is adjustable from 1-4psi.
Its very likely that they only have 12-803 which is adjustable from 4.5 - 9 psi. If this is the case, ask them if they have a recon kit (12-807) for this regulator too. The recon kit comes with springs for both the 803 and the 804
I didnt learn this overnight either....
Otherwise, I have CB performance rotary pumps which are set to 3psi

Are you referring to the spring underneath this lever ?Dawie wrote:You could also modify pump by reducing the pump's spring pressure.
Ahhh great thanks Tony - that was my first go to after some reading up. But I had part number as 'Quick Fuel 30-804 Fuel Pressure Regulator' and could not get a place that would ship it. Managed to get the Holley 12-804 for less than what they sell the empi ones over here.Tony Z wrote:Hey D

Re: 67 Panelvan
Main spring is under pump's diaphragm. In a sealed pump application, difficult to reach. On rebuildable pumps easy to reach. Looks like yours is sealed, so pressure regulator would then be best.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Re: 67 Panelvan
Need some advice, not sure whats going on with the kombi.
I packed the kombi the other day as I needed it to transport a few things. Disconnected the Ctek charger which showed the battery was fully charged. Got in the kombi ready to roll, when turning the ignition the starter did its thing for about 2secs and then just gave the click noises. Took the battery out and connected it to a different charger, I noticed that the one cell was not bubbling. Took the battery to Goeie Hoop where they did the tests on it and confirmed the battery was of no use and dead.
So I got my replacement battery. Got the new battery in the kombi and it started without a problem. Drove the kombi to an event and back later the night. The next morning when entering the garage I noticed a big puddle of battery acid under the kombi. Got the meter on it and it showed 15.55Volts, so Im guessing overcharging. When trying to start the kombi to check the charging the starter was dead again. So I assumed that I killed the battery with the overcharging.
Took the battery to Goeie hoop where they confirmed that the battery was fine and in 100% working order and it should start the kombi unless my starter has packed up. They replaced the working battery with a brand new one for free. So took the new battery home and connected it. It sounds like the starter wants to engage and swing but then just clicks again. Its definitely getting power. Took out the starter and had it tested. There is no problems with the starter at all.
So now Im lost, the only thing I can think of is a worn starter bush in the gearbox. I will have a look at this tonight. Will I be able to get to it without removing the engine ? Any other possible things to look at as Im guessing a dead battery and one dripping acid is also not a good sign and something is going wrong somewhere.
