Convertible Sunshine Cruiser

Post by Type1_2004 »

Decided what the heck earlier this year and bought myself this as a second ride. One of those ideas from High School. The car was supposed to be finished for December but you gotta love panel beaters. Bar has been sprayed white and there's a nice white stripe on the there now, I hear. Got Porsche rims for it and I'm thinking about t-bars now.

Yep the stripes on. I'm going for the exact opposite of a retro look. Everything that look isn't. Maybe some Lambo doors hehehehehe. White covered interior. Thinking about leaving off all the beading and getting some t-bars to match the high polish rims I'm planning. Rear lights are sourced from a totally different car maker (Mini). Hope I'll still get help from purists regardless he he he he he he!

Pics as soon as I can....

I relish the idea of my top down. Wanna celebrate my first day! :drunks: :drunks: :drunks: :drunks:

Helpful Criticism Welcomed!!!!! As in criticise but give a solution, I'd luv to kow how to fix what's wrong since I'm quite a newbie...

Got some wheels from Shaheen at The Wheel Shop. Porsche D90 Narrows and Wides with original porsche caps. Don't have tyres though. Got this pic from the net but mine are high polish.

Car just got a Fresh Solid Coat of paint. There was a problem with the gutter by the hinge though which had to be fixed. This means a repaint. I see a few more coming. I just told the guy to strip the internals...- Every moving bit. I wanna see what needs to be refreshed and patched etc. Might as well make it a reliable car since my rush for December is over.

looking good thus far but....
u asked for critism so i was wondering, why your friend did not take an extra ten minutes of his time and removed the door handles before spraying. just a thort cosidering how much work has already been done.

Well bugoff. Heard the same question from Bugger so I'm going to talk to him about it later. Get some pointers.

Farhaad. Funny thing. I kept on thinking and seeing it but it didn't really sink in. It looked wrong but I figured he knew what he was doing. Good thing is... Every bit to be chromed is going to be removed and all of the extras and knobbly bits. This will show the car in its clean form and we can discuss more fixes then (benefits of being his friend is that I bother him regularly). When the car gets reassembled everything will look as shiny/new as possible. He's slow but agreeable.

Plus the car is gonna have one long multicoloured (has to be seen to be understood) stripe from the front to the back on the driver's side and a nice V dub spray in red at the back (was that a secret :? ).

Just writing it so I can make sure it happens... :D :D :D :D :D :hangloose:

all good about the chrome bits but the main reason why i would remove the handle first before spraying is that the paint at the point of contact between the handle and door usually cracks or peel, were if the handle is fitted afterwards it sits over the paint.

It would have been better to have them removed for the full spray but there is some repairing and painting that is still gonna happen. During which the car will be fully stripped. Noted though. That's why I say while he was painting I noticed it was wrong but couldn't put my finger on it exactly. The area around the top hinge on the right had to be cut and replaced (pics this weekend). The area around the handles will be fixed/repainted then.

Thanks for pointing it out... Many eyes... yadayada. You know what they do

Told the guy that feedback was good so far and he seems...... energised.

I'd love to try so many new things with this build... If money was no object.....

Negotiating to get the car's build process as a series of segments on a little known car show...

That would be brilliant. :D :D :hangloose:

Anybody with heavily custom cars built can pm me to get on the show. Their always looking for content.
