My Barnyard Manx Find
Well started looking for a buggy earlier this week
Had a bite at a Beamish hence the price ask on another post
Mate comes round and comments on the progress with operation Sweet Pea
Tell him that im looking at a buggy for my next project
Response is that he has seen a bug on a farm
Turns out I know the guy
Go have a look yesterday
MMs pics to Vader and Jolas
Seems like I have stumbled on a goodie
Still no money has changed hands as the bug was taking up space in the shed
Might even get away with the outstanding license fees and some of my picking teams next week
Went today to fetch all tyres flat so took Lilly beetles
Hooking the bug up and the manager says hes sure the roof is somewhere in a shed
American Pickers se moer
Here comes one very happey Grabouw picker
This one will sure be saved and put to good use -
Here some pics will do a bit more of a write up when I have stopped shaking

Re: My Barnyard Manx Find
Wow, that is a fantastic find! Wonderful to see its original badges as well. The Manx Veldwagen was built in SA in the late 60's and was literally one of the first buggies in SA. Unfortunately it is not related to the USA Manxes, but in effect it is even more rare than an original US Manx. Some pics & info you'll enjoy. If you are not taking it, please let me know!!
This is the only one I have ever seen with my own eyes, but not very original any more

Re: My Barnyard Manx Find
Very nice body shape. I like the Manx and the Beamish, but the Beamish side is too sharp, you can't sit on it for any length of time and even resting your elbow on it when drive becomes painful.

Re: My Barnyard Manx Find
@ Bushpig and any others that are interested "Open Day " will be 12 May - my kids school fundraiser - for her class will be using the Sweet Pea as the main part of the stand - Lilly the beetle will be filled with baloons for a gues the number of balloons - hopefully will also have the Manx ready as an extra for some fun will also be having some vintage cars on show R50 for the entrance - hopeing to get some more cool air - keep the day open should be heaps of fun - could all end up on the farm for a good ol baarbie - watch this space
Have had a busy weekend
Still trying to get the bus back together
Have had a slight diversion so stipped down the Manx and give her a good cleaning
Engine out and down at Grand Slam for a once over - hopeping the 1300 is not to nocked up - bit of end play!!
Brake shoe front left is loose so locks up when going backwards
All the brakes will be taken apart sripped and cleaned
Body is still in real good nic - stone chips from being towed on the nose and a few holes for the various add ons that need to be filled
Screen out and will get new cut on monday
Pan very rusted on passenger side
So shopping list has begun
Still wondering about the indicators seem a bit flimsy - would like some top mounts
Fuel sender unit
HAnd brake
Pedal cluster
Steering wheel
4-1 pipe system
Rear mirror and some sides - any ideas ?
Tie rot ends - short side is $%#@^%#@ !!!!
Colour scheme at this stage
Black stone chip -rubber on the bottom
Red for the body - in loving memory of Chilli that we got the roof and other bits for Sweet Pea
Not cheery red but original paint form the red bus - more "ox blood " ???
Good white for the roof
Stan the upholterer to do the back flap for the roof and the seats
Still thinking about that
Might recover the bugs seats for the beetle and go for some buckets ??
Will post some more pics and one large one for you Klaus
Monday will be off to the scrap yard for some of the bits from the green beetle - passenger pan for sure as it is in good shape- accelerator cable - pedal assembly - varios brake bits
Quite like the side profile from pines post - with the top support for the screen - might have to copy that
Have to find the camera and post some of those much needed PICTURES for all the keen followers of the project

Re: My Barnyard Manx Find
Hr will get the details from my wife and post up on the events as soon as all is finalised - thanks
Well yeterday was eventfull -went to the old scrap yard - guys had a crusher there to clean up some space + that machine is a hard core way to end a cars life - one whole car in and you left with something bigger than a suitcase !!!!
Good news was that the green beetle was up for the crush - 17 and 19 spanner seperate body from pan and R450 later got the pan for the repair to the Manx - back seat and passenger got trown in also
Pan got some ather bits that are needed - pedal assembly etc
Here the pics from the weekend strip
Pan parts - pity it was cut and yes that was indirectly me - fix for the Lilly beetle for the roadworthy - PAn was in a front ender so the front mount is all crushed in -
fuel and clutch pipes will be removed aswell as the hand break - Manx previous cut open the tunnel to change clutch cable and also some wierd other brake lever - clutch cable piping is currently in with the gear shift mech - hopeing this is the reason for heavy gear selection as not too much space and the piping has some wear on it
Hoping that the cuts on the tunnel to do the repairs will help some hand space to put the piping in the correct place will probably also put the brake line in there also - if there is space all piping in a bit of pvc pipe for the wear - seems the fuel line is damaged in there as there was a pipe allong the floor of the manx and then wired onto the exhaust pipe
SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST PLAIN STUPID - this was about half a trip from a burn
Hope the pics are a bit bigger
