As my great uncle "Murphy" has placed his sweaty little hands on the progress of the Fugly, screwed up the paperwork on the much needed Webers, and got us to run tight up to the wire for the run to George.

The carbs where sent well on time, the paperwork sucked, the guy at customs thought it was Christmas all over again, and wanted the London Bridge for the clearance of the poor carbs.

So now with the correct paperwork, the now working carbs, are leaving London, and hopefully will be here in time for fitment, linkages mods, tests and ready to run on Friday the 8th, only :bn: is they must make it through customs again.

Here's hoping.

Well here we go.

The Webers have arrived, and the decision to only get the two Carb's was taken to enable the old type 4 filter cartridge air filter to be retained.

With the Fastback I got the full set with linkages and fittings, but as the linkages are to close to the carbs, the old Air Filter would not work.

Also I saved 1800 ZAR's by not bringing in the kit. :D

But this means that a full rework of all the linkage parts had to be taken on, and blind Mounting points had to be found on the Webers and tapped, for threads.
All the fuel pipes, vacuum pipes, and filter vent pipes had to be rerun or rerouted.

But this was all done, and the timing was set, the idling speed set, the Idling mix set, and the linkages were set.
So all tools packed away and armed with a 10 mm spanner, I hit the road.

Down hill and up hill, start stop, sett a bit on the timing, and all over again.

This went on for 120 Km, but now I can say that the Fugly is running right, and strong.

Here are the Twin 34 ICT Webers fitted....

Now for the Police clearance on the motor, and RWC, then change the tires & Rims, and off to George.

Here are the RWC road wheels, will show you the running wheels after RWC.

Till then.....

Looks great Herman.

Why did you go for the ICTs instead of IDFs?

Thanks.

I wanted something that looked semi original, but had fuel economy, as well as road side simplicity.

And they perform great on the type 4 engine.

Do you get it already jetted for the 2.0l engine or do you have to still do that?

Where do you buy the webers from?

If you'd of travelled any further on that test trip you could of been in Cape Town. :D

Well done squire.

Hopefully my fasty is ready now too. Replaced the 2L motor with the original 1500. Took it for a test drive which lasted 10 km's.

Drove over a speed bump to find my son never tightened the distributor, so it jumped out of its slot.

All back in working order now.

2l motor will have to be stripped as not only do I have vacuum issues, it sounds to me like the rings have come off the piston. Will open her up after George.
Why do we celebrate the guy that invented the wheel??
Surely we must celebrate the guy tat invented the other three

I have found that http://www.dellorto.com trading as Eurocarb Ltd, are one of the few that sell Genuine Weber carbs, and not the Empi Knock-offs.

And as a service you tell them what engine you are putting it into, what altitude the car will mostly be driving in, and they fit the correct jetting for you.

Thanks HR.

Like your new avatar.

Good to hear the Fasty will be making it to George, but sad that you have issues with the Type 4 motor.

Hopefully its not a big issue.

Not sure how to put this....

So this week has been a eventful week.

Finally got the carbs from England, Fitted them, got the the car off to DataDot it, then got Police clearance, then did RWC.

During this whole time, the Fugly went well, but it ran out of steam.

Put it down to tight engine, not run in yet.

Made up the "T" fitting to join both carbs vacuum to the Vacuum advance, it got a bit better, removed the bogi cords on the one side, got a bit better.

Then I had a look at the valve settings. they where correct......What now ......

Then it struck me like a 5Lt bucket of melted Ice Cream.

Had Hydraulic Valve lifters fitted....... :D Dam, the setting is incorrect........

Reset the valves while feeling like a fool, and tried to start the engine, no go...

What now, go to the back speaking in strange languages, ready to kick the car, saw the distributor cap off, as I use that to indicate which valve to set... :D

Put it back, and the engine started 1st time, ran like a charm, got in and just drove, smiling all the way.

Man is this one happy 16 year old chappy again.

If you see a Fugly :bn: looking bus on the way to George, going like stink, wave, as there is a happy chappy in there.... :D :D
