thanks guys,

fitted wing mirrors today, and fitted the motor into the car for the 1st time....

Yes , you guest it, it had to come out again, as the flywheel dragged, so with a bit of Finessing with an angle grinder, and spitting out manganese,
the engine went in again, but with the gearbox up high, I had to pull it onto the rubber seals but she went in nicely.

Refitted all the carbs, and timing gizmoss, and will be trying to gipo start her tomorrow.

Harness is into customs, so lets hope it clears fast, and gets delivered.

Let you know if she lived tomorrow

The product is ABE Super laykold silver paper lined strips, all building merchants have it.

You get it in different widths, but the wider you go the more impossible it gets to get it on flat.

I used the 100 mm wide, and heated the tar side with a heat gun to make it nice and sticky.

Herman

I was at the local Builders Warehouse yesterday and had a look at the laykold tape.
How well does this stuff work for sound proofing compared to products that are made for soundproofing. The Dynamat stuff is just way to expensive.

I dont know that product, but the theory is that anything which adds weight and helps reduce vibration will work as a sound deadening material.

I have used it, and taking the much lower cost into account it was a no brainer, it works, bummer that the strips are rather small.

Try Genesis Acoustics automotive insulation, they have branches in PE,CA and Jhb. National number 0860022157 they should be able to help with sound proof material. Google them.I think PE is the Head Office. So Herman may know them. Not sure if they have what you need but they do for automotive sound proofing at what cost I cant say.

We should be ready with her for George, and as the Split bus is not, and will not, we hope to have the Bay Panel-van ready.

Hi Donovan,

Yes the Laykold is a lot cheaper, and it works just as well as the high priced stuff.

How the sound proof works, is that 1st it stops the body metal from vibrating, STOPPING the amplifying of, car, road and engine sound.

The Bituminous content, absorbs any sound that has got to the metal, and dissipates it within the Bituminous layer, the aluminum foil layer, will not transfer sound, so should it get through, the last layer will stop it.it will also reflect the in-car sound back so the speech and radio sound will be better.

So to reply, YES it will work, and the more surfaces you cover, the better the sound proofing will be.

So today i got the Battery cables into the car, and gippoed the solenoid with fly wire,

fitted a lead to the coil, and gave the engine a few turns just to get oil pressure, when the oil pressure switch turned off,

I added fuel to the carb's by long fuel line to tin, and started her.

She started idling by herself, and then gave a back fire.

Realising the age old fault, that I had piston 3 &4 plug leads mixed up, changed them, and restarted her.

She idled like a dream, when to the back and pulled on the accelerator cable, and she roared with excitement.

Tested the peddles, one at a time to make sure they move freely, and with the clutch set, tested the gears and clutch height.

Busy fitting the back valance, and getting ready to mount the bumpers.

Will try to remember to take pic's tomorrow.

Thanks for looking.
