Thanks Alex20, thanks for the compliment, i've been tempted many times to go full, cal-look, but decided to stick to resto-cal for this one, my dad has a full cal-look '57 with one piece windows front and to be honest he said he is replacing them with stock windows when we revamp them one day, they rattle and leak quite a bit, might be because of the installation obviously but to be honest i kinda like the little vent windows, interior will also be stock standard apart from vintage speed shifter and some extra guages.

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

1962 T1 resto cal project

Post by 62RestCal »

Some more update on my project, the OG steering wheel was in "okay" shape but seeing as i had to graft a new indicator stem onto the original i would have to match up paint for it anyway so i decided to go ahead and fix up all the cracks on the steering wheel. Went with Chris Valone's method of using epoxy putty to fill up all the cracks, i opened them up with a rotary tool first so as to get more material deep into the cracks, finished off with high build etch primer and 2k paint, also did the turn signal stem and steering tube in the same light grey, this will also match all the other grey molded fittings and knobs. Horn ring is original and just cleaned properly.ImageImageImageImageImage

The pratley putty worked like a charm and should be strong enough to hold up with the flex of the steering wheel, it smoothes out real easy even before it sets, some salyva on the finger works best Image. Then two coats etch and on to paintImageImageImage
