Tony what is different with 1302 1303 and a S if I may ask.

Mcpherson strut front suspension (coilovers), semi trailing arm rear suspension so it uses 2 CV joints on each side (wheels dont swing, then go straight up and down). So in this respect its a totally different car.
Bigger fuel tank and the spare tyre lies flat
nose is more rounded for better aerodynamics.
1302 has a flat windscreen, 1303 has rounded windscreen - the 1600S what SA has was shaped to look like the 1303 but didnt have the suspension system of the 1303
the S models had front disc brakes

Yip, there are only a handful in SA.
I know of two 1302 in Cape Town and have heard of a third one.
In all honesty, I doubt that there are more than 30 supers in SA - thats the 1302 and 1303, not the 1600S

So were these 1302's manufactured in South Africa?

no, as far as I know, Germany only. But I stand under correction and not really phased enough to go through google to find out.

I looked up "VW 1302 in SA" and the first two finds in Google was both from this forum. Both a mr "Tony Z" and mr "Pine" stated that it was never made in SA. So there you have it. Google knows all.

Small update.
I havent actually achieved much even though I seem to have put quite a few hours into the car.
The disc brake conversion is nearly done. Only waiting for a couple of small things.
All the flexible hoses have now been replaced with stainless steel braided hoses. Partially because the front caliper didnt have much room to fit the hose, so had to source hoses with banjo connectors for the front, but the normal hoses were too thick and would hit the coil-over. I found a guy who builds Lotus 7's and his banjo fittings are a lot thinner than the others I could find.
Then while I was at it, I just had the other hoses made up to fit too.
Unfortunately, I now have hoses without the stock mounting setup, so I had to custom make mounts to hold the hoses in place and prevent them rubbing on the chassis/body and the wheel.

Then today I had the time to make up the wheel spacers needed to get the wheel away from the coil-over. The rim isnt an issue, but I have 215/45/17 tyres from my daily driver which I'd like to use and these would push up onto the coil.
I made up 21mm spacers to move the wheel out and now I have a few mm clearance between the tyre and the coil.
When the car is ready to hit the road, I'll likely be buying new rubber and so will go with 205's for a little more clearance. But as it stands, the tyres clear the body/fender and also the springs, so job well done.
the spacer is located "hubcentrically" and the center hole is 0.03mm larger than the hub diameter. It fits perfectly without play and slides on and off easily.

it is nice and definitely quicker than waiting for someone else to do it.
I did hit a panic with the parting tool though. The damn thing grabbed and pulled the stock out of the chuck. Luckily I heard it grabbing before it happened and I shut down just as it all went pear shaped. The parting tool amazingly didnt break, the tip luckily didnt get stuck in the stock and I managed to save the job.
I hate parting off - in this case it was a 45mm cut so the chips do drive a person crazy.

Tony try to give it a slight angle edge to the left, this will hold it into the chuck and should not grab

You can tell how many jobs I have done on my lathe by counting all the broken tools I have lying around.When I was on the mines I needed a socket turned down to fit the track on a D9L dozer but the Fitter was in the open cast so I decided to use his lathe but I turned the socket blue and ended up in s..t for doing what I did to his tool and the blue shavings all over the place..But after that I was known as Terry The Blue Turner and was not allowed in the machine shop again and all the machines where locked.

Not much to add other than having made up center caps for the front hubs
