did you have fun getting the top arms off?

You'll probably have to find springs on a bus that is getting broken for scrap/spares.

Got rims back from sand blasting and powder coating today.

Cannot wait to put some rubber on them. What do you guys think white walls or not?

And so the stripping is commencing nicely

Radiator removed and guess what
They said they did not cut to fit the radiator do and here we go

Image

On another side project I have been trying to get hold of a front badge and not willing to pay R 2700 for one of these so got these cut from mild steel 4.5 mm thick 25 cm

Image

Going to get the edges rounded and then chromed.

Got some nice pics off the internet for some graphics

Playing around with some logo ideas for a sticker or two

Image

And some pictures or stickers for the side maybe who knows where we end up

Had some time on my hands to looks for some tyres

Decided to have these fitted to the rims.

Think they will look good on Blue Abomination. Waiting for suspension to be sorted then we can mount them and see

HEY FREDDIE.
WHAT DID THOSE SET YOU BACK?
WHAT COLOUR IS THE BUS GOING TO BE. I'D LOVE TO SEE WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE ON THE BUS.
I HAVE JUST HAD MY RIMS AND TYRES DONE FOR THE CREWCAB BUT NOTHING AS EYECATCHING AS YOURS.

Nice, I see they are 195/14 as opposed to the stock 185/14.
That's a difference or about 15mm in diameter which should work out nicely with the gearing.
Wanted parts:
Left sunvisor
Sink faucet
Exhaust to swap for Beetle exhaust

I hope it all works out fine. Will see once I have them fitted

I made this one in graphics editor to see what the red will look like but the taxi white walls was an after thought.

Image

They set me back R 850 ea per tyre
To have the rims done was R300 ea sandblast and powder coat.

Will see how the gearing works out when she is going.

SAME AS WHAT I PAID. I DIDN'T GO WHITE WALLS THOUGH. I ALSO WENT FOR THE 185R14C DUNLOP. IT'S WHAT WE HAVE ON BLUE BELLE AND TANK AS WELL. ALSO DUNLOP WERE RUNNING A SPECIAL. IF YOU FITTED 4 DUNLOPS YOU GOT A FREE SMART PHONE. ALTHOUGH I'M AT LEAST 3 - 6 MONTHS AWAY FROM HAVING THE C/C DONE, I THOUGHT I MAY AS WELL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE PROMOTION. THE TYRES AREN'T GOING TO GET ANY CHEAPER EITHER.

I wouldn't recommend the 195's on any standard Kombi. The difference in ratios is quite substantial for the small engines to handle. The difference is quite noticeable when the tyre change is done. It gives a bus quite a pup feeling.

Most brands have discontinued the 185's in SA, but Continental and Dunlop still make them here locally. There are some Chinese imports available as well.
