1972 Crossover D/C - Blue Abomination
Went to have a look at a double cab advertised in Junk Mail and fell in love a little bit.
The dust and rust was paid for on this one.
She had a canopy on so the back was not too bad but the dust was really bad
Some pics of the wheels do not know why they fitted beetle hub caps but they are there
On the bottom they have these plates fitted to hide the rust
Some rust on the normal places on the side windows
Under the windscreen
Some rust on the floor
Some more rust
Then they did something wrong at one stage at the engine bay and something caught fire but luckily it was stopped before it could get into the engine bay
Close up of those marks
But she had papers and was loaded on the flat bed for transport to my buddy to start mechanical repairs
We got her to my guy and he immediately gave her a bath even though I paid extra for the dust
That v6 conversion has to go
She has a nice forklift radiator on the front luckily they did not drill into the front to fix it there but a nice blot of silicone got stuck on the front to protect the nose
Front bumper however was cut quite bad to hold the forklift parts
We started to remove the engine and do bearings brake system and brake lines.
Conversion people left the ford bell housing on the engine and removed the original one
The rear drums are also skimmed to the last edge and need to be replaced.
Will be requesting parts on here from now on then there is one thread and not 15 kazilion sorry guys.
So for now looking for
Bell housing
Rear drums
If anybody has taking up space at a reasonable price please

Nice one Freddie.
I'm in a similar boat looking for spares.
We must find a Kombi Scrapyard. Most of the parts needed don't need to be new.

Playing around in my graphics editor what do you guys think?
Do not worry that ugly radiator will go as well
Also tinkering with the idea of a theme for this D/C until I have budget to do bare metal restore
Blue Abomination close enough to Blue A-Bomb
Since my daughter thinks this is an abomination well here we go.
Rat / Street Double cab here we come at least for now

Re: 1972 Crossover D/C - Blue Abomination
That is what I think as well. Thanks for the ideas will keep you posted. Going to start to play around today with the engine lid. Sand it down to get the surface flat where fuel spilled and lit on fire I imagine due to a silly fuel filter in the engine bay
Put some red oxide and elbow grease and see if I can imitate a rust look. Will polish or clear it afterwards and see what I get. Will post an update afterwards but will take a few days for paint to dry.
Also will have to make a plan with that canopy type handle on there. It has been butchered badly on the inside as well.
Else if I stuff it up will have to go out and look for another lid.

Hi there, I got a spare lid for you and a handle/lid as well. I don't want money for it but willing to trade for something of similar value that I might need. I am also in Pretoria.

Didi will let you know how this one turns out thank you will be in contact if I really stuff this up. Let me know if there is anything you need have some spare parts not a lot but some.
Mark OMW that steel nose looks like it is welded on there. The guys doing these conversions have no idea what they left us with at all. When are you starting your project ?

Anybody know where I can find torsion bar leaves for my bus. Quite a couple of mine are worn out or broken guess there was some serious abuse happening here over the years
