21 Window Samba replica (pic heavy)

Post by splitbusahollic »

We have just completed and delivered a very nice project. What started off as an 11 window German bus went on to become an extremely nice 21 Window Samba replica, complete with color matched interior, 1776cc engine, Steering rack conversion, disc brakes, Deluxe Trim, Stainless steel front Badge, kienzle dash clock, hand made interior stainless steel trim, imported vinyl, ragtop sunroof (manufactured by ourselves), deluxe bumper trim, stainless steel safari's , over rider bumpers.. and all the bells and whistles. All the parts used were supplied by our very own shop , Aircooled spares.co.za. The project took just over two years to complete. A new one of these will cost around R880K complete turnkey. To the private restorer this may sound like a lot but if you add the parts and labor you spend then You will be surprised at what it actually costs.
We have learned from our mistakes in the past, and took what We learned from that forward, and improved our quality as well as the time frame we work in...in the long run that pays off.

Part two....

We paint with BASF paint (Baslac) and believe me it's awesome paint , gives great coverage and the colors are all formulated, which makes any touch-ups a pleasure. On the 1776 engine we add an external oil filter as well as an 1.5lt extended sump. We install brand new barrels and pistons, new 34 carb, new alternator, new oil cooler, and electronic ignition for peace of mind traveling. We open and recon the Gearbox and all the suspension parts incl. the reduction boxes, all bearings and wheel cylinders are replaced. We also fit Our own fire suppressant system in the engine compartment.
Most of the interior bling is stainless steel ( jail bars, luggage rail and trim)
The colors really work well together on the bus and the end result is amazing !

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Now the new owner's going to be telling everyone he owns one of the rarest Sambas on the planet.. lol. He's in my neck of the woods, I'll keep an eye out for it locally.

Yip! I pop in at the shop from time to time,...... always have been treated well,.. even when I drool over their "projects"
Never saw something that I did not like :hangloose:
These gents are committed and have the skills to do it right.

O! Yes! And the bus. Is killer!,

Thanks Guys. :D
My client is well aware that it is a replica, cause a real 21 window (we are busy restoring one at the moment) will cost a tad more than this one did
