Hi Riaan. You should find a screen filter when you open up the pump, but this doesn't replace the inline fuel filter located at the gearbox. It filters particles that managed to get through a dirty inline filter.

Thank you. There is no other filter, but will add one. It looks as if there never was another filter if I just look at the hose clamps that is still on the pipes...looks like oem ones.73type2 wrote:Hi Riaan. Do you know what seals the pump uses....normal o-rings?

Its Michelin Energy Saver +. 185/65R15 and the spare is a 175/60R15. There was a few options, but the majority of tire guys said the Michelin were the best for grip out if the options in these sizes. Grip was my nr 1 requirement.Batman wrote:What tyres did you fit. I need to get tyres some time soon.

Re: My Beetle, Beebo
Decisions, decisions...
What brand of tie rod ends would you fit today to your beetle/bus if you must replace it? MOOG, Move, Meyle, PartQuip, FEBI.... EMPI?
Greaseable or non-greaseable?
If a tie rod end has excessive play, can it result in a catastrophic failure seeing you causing an accident?

Most fail due to lack of lubrication.Riaan.N wrote: ↑Thu Oct 25, 2018 11:00 am Decisions, decisions...

If you drill and tap a 6mm thread into the cap and fit a grease nipple, but you must use a vacuum machine during the process to prevent shavings from entering.
Then pump grease into it, it should last.
Never had one fail, when done even the cheapies.

Re: My Beetle, Beebo
Thanks Herman and Terry
I know a lot of manufactures are outsourcing their production to the east, but there should hopefully still be some brands that have good quality control. Apple is made in the east and many other brands of products and its not all bad. The difficulty is in sifting through it all to hopefully find a decent product
I have come across some tie rod ends that are sold as being greaseable out of the box.

You'll pay much more in courier fees than for the actual item. Why don't you just give the parts a good cleaning?

Re: My Beetle, Beebo
Hi Hans, I have not phoned around, but I’m not sure if I will find something. I have been browsing overseas websites for quite sometime and I only came across this today. The impression I get is that it’s not such a “algemene” fuel pump.Haans wrote:Riaan,...you had my attention ,.....albeit it a short span !!!,....with the fuel pump,....will check mine with assembly

Then again, I might be wrong/surprised!?

I know, but this is the only place where I have seen one.73type2 wrote:You'll pay much more in courier fees than for the actual item. Why don't you just give the parts a good cleaning?
That’s the plan, but I don’t want to open it without having had an idea what to expect. This is where this find helps a bit and if I need to replace itI now have a possible source.
This does not seem to be the normal run of the mill pump, so would like to keep it running.
So maybe I should make the shipping fee worthwhile I will maybe open it and take it from there.

Re: My Beetle, Beebo
You might be overthinking this. Nothing could go wrong if you unscrew the top. You'll find a sieve and gasket as in your pic above. Take them out and clean them, as well as the pump bowl. The pump looks very new so I doubt whether you need to buy any new parts.

Re: My Beetle, Beebo
That is a stock standard late beetle fuel pump (the one for alternator system). Leave it just as is. Don’t scratch with it, just add the inline filter.
