Meet "Beasty"...my chopped beetle

Post by sdudum »

Greetings everybody, meet "Beasty"...my new project. Currently having some work done on rusty areas and straightening some bits. Pan being sourced currently and work happening at the speed of wallet opening and closing.... I am excited about this build as this will complement "Sbongile" my 356 Speedster and at some point my Morris Minor....

Looks great.

Was the roof lowered?

Yes, roof is lowered. Fenders widened front and rear... front lights will most likely be mini cooper S types to keep the sleek look, rear lights also want them to be sleek...maybe 49 Ford rear drop or something flattish like that...

The month of October has ended...we did not go to paint. some small issues to bang out, weld in, sand down, align....etc

the glass works also are challenging...we are now seriously under the hammer, my guy for the interior is not working all of December...

Still need to finish on pan work and suspension and brakes...front changing to disc brakes, gearbox has been sourced and it seems decent...engine is the next nightmare...anybody got a spare engine to donate ?

OK, we have gone to paint. This is a good place to be in, but now I am looking at getting all sort of goodies to actually get the build going...engine, door cards, carpets, gear shifter, handbrake, pedal assembly, wiring harness, seats...pretty much everything to make this into a driving car...anybody who has something...please ping me for us to possibly transact...

The door cards can be made yourself, if you are going for full interior the interior guy should be able to make it for you.
Gear shifter and hand brake you should be able to get at Volkspares or FFR along with cables.

Make your own wiring harness according to your needs. I bought a generic beetle one which I ended up taking apart. Amazing how some of the wires in the harness was simply soldered together and covered with insulation tape. It seemed they had a bunch of off cut wires and just used what they had.

Keep an eye on gumtree and facebook market place as there are loads of parts for sale.
