Cape Kombis going to Parys for the Kaapse Kombi Kult gathering

Post by jolas »

Greetings all

Well we all know about fig and Gisela's event happening from Friday 19th Feb till the Sunday.

Although I've been to their campsite and home, Vaalplaasie, on the banks of the Vaal River in my Westfalia camper (and had the place to myself  ), I've never attended a Kaapse Kombi Kult gathering. Its quite a bit of driving and expense for a 2 day get-away from Cape Town, the weekday travelling bit has also been an issue with school, and so on and so forth.

But - if I'm ever going to attend any of these "Kamp Outs", then this has to be THE one. I can't believe that 10 years has already passed, crikey, age is creeping up
There is nothing like this in South Africa for us Kombi nutters. I don't think there will be anything else that compares anytime soon.

Lets try our best to support this 10th Anniversary. If you own a Kombi and are'nt really into the "kombi camping thing", don't stress, the pizzas there are very, very tasty - you won't have to cook !

Please man, do your best to make a plan. Of course not everyone can go, we all have our own lives, circumstances, preferences, etc - but if there is something biting you, or that niggling feeling to hit the road, eish, listen to that little voice, it could be a really memorable trip, albeit so short a time (you could of course carry on with a road trip if you don't want to come back so soon).

So - anyway - from Cape Town and surrounds there are a few busses leaving early on the Thursday morning.

Christo - early bay panel van
JC Rousseau - early bay bus (or pickup?)
Marilize - late baywindow bus
Sean - '59 rat split bus - 1100 motor
Jason - '57 split bus - also 1100 motor
Jolas - splittie project single cab
Francois - early bay westy
Chris VW rules - come on china, your blue rat must meet us near Colesburg

Please feel free to add your name :D

If you live in another region, please start a convoy thread for your area - there are many bus owners here and not on the forum, or other social media, who need to know about this :hangloose: Spread the word :hangloose:

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

If you not working on Saturday and Sunday, you can still attend. Leave Friday evening and drive through the night to make the show, then leave Sunday evening and drive through the night again. I know it sounds harsh, but its really not that bad. I've done it before.... Your bus should have no problem doing it.

I thought about it but its a bit much just for a day or two, as I will probably be half asleep all Saturday.
