VW Beetle Trip

Post by Terry Phillips »

A short story to share. In 1962 my wifes uncle and aunt bought a new Beetle and decided to go to LM on holiday. They came across a carved center table with 4 side tables and a big carved kist. As you can see they managed to get all the furniture and all their clothes in and on the Beetle. They took the back seat base out got the center table and side tables in the back. He then put the base of the seat on the roof tied the kist on top of the seat to the bumper brackets and put a rope through the doors after putting his wife in first then he had to climb through the drivers window to get in. When they stopped he climbed out undone the rope let his wife out and thats how they came back to Kensington.Mad German. I just seen the table in our storage and remembered that story he told me in the early 70s. This furniture was traded in Tanzania who must have traded it with China as thats where it was carved. Herman we can only find this picture which was the last one he owned before he passed on so no others.
