Hi all,

First post, so let me start by introducing myself.

I'm a filmmaker from Belgium with a big love for everything automotive. For years I have been fascinated with the story of the South African VW Golf and that's why I decided to visit your beautiful country two years ago. At that time I met up with some guys from the VW Mk I community in Cape Town. What a blessing to witness all this passion for such an iconic car.

Now, I just booked my ticket to return to Cape Town for a month in February 2019, while during my last visit my main goal was to meet people, this time the plan is to shoot a couple of short documentaries for my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/patinaofficial

I will mostly be in the Cape Town area, but I figure that in order to tell the story properly I would have to go to Uitenhage as well to visit the auto pavillion and factory. I read a lot of people talking about John Lemon, and he seems to be THE person to talk to. Is anyone on here still in contact with him? Can someone connect us or even just check whether this is something he could be interested in?
Also apparently he made a book but I'm unable to find it, if anyone could link to that, I would appreciate it as well.

Also if you know about other people that would be interesting to talk to, that would be interesting as well, especially people with a connection to VW SA, but others are welcome as well.

Cheers! Have a lekker day y'all!

Interesting, should be a worth while trip.
I am guessing the Jamie Orr MK1 experience sparked a lot more interest?
I suppose another person to speak to would be Vic Pardal from the Southside Crew in Jhb. He is also a HUGE MK1 fan, and has a very fast Mk1. If I remember correctly, he went with Jamie to Las Vegas and the MK1? Video here -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqNbgCOp_nI

Link to Vic's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/vicpardal/

Another would be Joburg Auto Tech as they have one of the fastest MK1 (fwd) in SA.

@Merlin Thanks man, just got back to you!

@V6 Capri
The interest was definitely there before Jamie, but I followed his project and found it amazing!
I'll definitely check out Vic and the other links you sent me! Much appreciated!

Hi. You can also try and advertise it on www.vwclub.co.za as they are more into Mk1/Citigolf.
