Jamie Hyneman & Adam Savage on Porsche areodynamics

Post by Pine »

Urban legend: A Porsche 928 is more aerodynamic going backwards than forward...

....then this was posted on a Porsche Forum
hello, i'm a researcher on the tv show Mythbusters. we're in need of 928's between 1978-86. we testing the drag coefficients...supposedly the aerodynamics are better going backwards than forwards. we're also interested in obtaining fiberglass body kits, we're having trouble locating these as we've heard they don't exist. hopefully some of you can help me prove that they DO exist...c'mon Porsche people, help out the Mythbusters
So the Mythbusters found a 928, and turned the body around on its 'chassis'   (SA Popular Mechanics Jan 2011)

They then took aother standard 928 on a straight road and accelerated both cars up too 100mph and threw them into neutral and coasted, thus removing completely the hp difference aspect, to see which one stopped the furthest.

And the result? That's the problem! I DON"T KNOW!!!

Has anyone seen this episode already??

Urban Bull @#$^. The car was more aerodynamic in the correct orientation. The show has been on DSTV a few times already. Who ever came up with that thought in the first place was drunk, stoned or moronic...

But they ruined a nice car, rubbish automatic but still, looked in decent condition. That episode was a bit upsetting. Probably due to my connection with the front engined water cooled models.

You guys wanna tell me there are no wind tunnels in the states? It would be much easier to test it that way.

This episode was on last night just after 21h00t
They actually had a scale model in a windtunnel aswell as in a watertank to check the flow and drag of the model car.
Not once did they mention Porsche, they kept on referring to it as the 70's sportscar.
