When VW started, before they even became VW, the where South African Motor Assemblers and Distributors (SAMAD)

in 1946 the factory assembled at least 12 Studebakers a day.

They made Volvo, Austin, DKW, VW, and a number of other cars, on the same line all on the same time, totally mixed on one line.

Didn’t know that, some interesting history tit-bits! Thanks for sharing HermanImage

Just to add to the Austria story, it was all very new, if not still current models, that they were assembling....just to show/know its still happening today. That is partly why it stuck with me.

As far as I know the Duster is a Dacia . They came a long way though. The first Dacia bakkies sold here in the 90's was so bad nobody wanted it. Account to an account I read, your clothes would catch on the welds if you would walk pass it

Yes Dacia has the double cab half tonne that rusted away before final HP payment.

Do you know that the VW Polo sadan is not made in Germany or SA ??

Only the hatch back is made here (RHD)
